dutch   68 #13 Posted November 18, 2015 I make the Rotherham Sheffield journey sometimes but not often, not often enough to say we need a tram for it as the train and x78 have been fine. But this is all supposed to be some expensive experiment, not really something to serve realities real needs. But maybe people working in Sheffield will move to Rotherham once it connects by tram to Sheffield.
 Share this content via...
Andy C Â Â 85 #14 Posted November 18, 2015 Best not tell anyone about these mythical things called "roads" which have linked the two places for years... Â Yes, ever since the borders were left open those pesky Rotherham people have been getting into Sheffield...
 Share this content via...
dutch   68 #15 Posted November 18, 2015 I hope they put a tramstop near Blackburn Meadows Nature Reserve. Nice walk from meadowhall to there and you can take tram back again.
 Share this content via...

dutch   68 #17 Posted November 18, 2015 (edited) The only new stops on the tram route will be the extended lower platforms at Rotherham Central and the terminus at Parkgate.  Oh well. It is a lovely little hidden isolated nature reserve few people know about and rather unreachable unless by bicycle or walking or canal boat. Think Ill prefer the train to/from Rotherham as it does the exact same job as that tram, faster more direct.  ---------- Post added 18-11-2015 at 11:15 ----------  By the way, normal daytime hours the x78 can sometimes be faster than tram from meadowhall to city centre. These trams are good but not always super. Edited November 18, 2015 by dutch
 Share this content via...

Guest busdriver1 Â Â #19 Posted November 18, 2015 Am I right in thinking this will run right next to the BRT that is also not really needed?
 Share this content via...
dutch   68 #20 Posted November 18, 2015 Looking at the proposed tracks installation it looks like these new trams don't service meadowhall interchange. Are there going to be more trams from Cineworld back to the city with this new experiment?
 Share this content via...
Andy C Â Â 85 #21 Posted November 18, 2015 Looking at the proposed tracks installation it looks like these new trams don't service meadowhall interchange. Are there going to be more trams from Cineworld back to the city with this new experiment? Â The route will split at Meadowhall South tram stop, the existing Yellow route will continue to Meadowhall Interchange as now, the Tram Train route will branch off to Rotherham Central and Parkgate. Â The tram train will indeed call at Valley Centertainment, so yes, there will be more trams from Cineworld.
 Share this content via...
the fonz   10 #22 Posted November 18, 2015 Am I right in thinking this will run right next to the BRT that is also not really needed?  They do run quite close along most of the route yes, but remember the Tram Train is only a trial, so might not be around for ever.  The BRT and the associated link road are really needed, especially if you like shopping at ikea. alexander874 Â Â 17 #23 Posted November 18, 2015 Its almost certain that the purple route wont go to Meadowhall . There is to be a major revision of the timetable in July when the new trams will be ready to enter service .
 Share this content via...
