tinfoilhat   11 #241 Posted February 16, 2016 So WHEN are we actually going to get some heavy snow?  Getting some snow tomorrow. Don't think it will be heavy.  Have stocked up with 22 loaves of bread and a gallon of milk just in case.
 Share this content via...

Jeffrey Shaw   83 #245 Posted February 22, 2016 So WHEN are we actually going to get some heavy snow? Maybe not at all. Why are some people so credulous when reading/hearing dire weather forecasts, all of which have been about as accurate as last year's pre-General Election opinion poll results! Andy C   83 #249 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) Met Office weather warning for Wednesday, Yorkshire & Humber: Yellow warning of snow/ice  http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=warnings®ionName=yh&fcTime=1456876800  Showers or outbreaks of rain will turn wintry overnight, with the risk of a more prolonged spell of snowfall late in the night and during Wednesday morning, especially in the south. This will give a covering of snow with 1-4 cm possible in places and locally 5-10 cm, these higher accumulations mainly above 200 m. Icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements are also likely to form.  Please be aware of some difficult driving conditions and the potential for travel disruption into the Wednesday morning rush hour.  There remains some uncertainty as to where the greatest snowfall accumulations will occur and this warning will be kept under review and updated as necessary.  Chief forecaster's assessment  A cold front will move east and south across the United Kingdom through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. This will introduce significantly colder air with frequent showers, these turning readily to sleet and snow even at low levels. 1 to 4 cm is expected in some areas by dawn Wednesday with up to 10 cm in places. These higher accumulations are more likely over higher ground above 200 m but may also occur to low levels where showers are heavy and prolonged. This is perhaps most likely across parts of Lancashire, the Manchester area and the Peak District and may result in local medium impacts. Clear spells between showers will also lead to icy stretches forming on untreated surfaces.  ---------- Post added 01-03-2016 at 14:23 ----------  Forecast for Sheffield for Wednesday  http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/forecast/gcqzwtdw7#?fcTime=1456876800  4am to 9am - light rain showers 9am to midday - sleet showers midday to 1pm - light snow 1pm to 2pm - sleet showers, sunny intervals 2pm to 5pm - sunny intervals 5pm to midnight - overcast Edited March 1, 2016 by Andy C
 Share this content via...

The PIT Â Â 10 #251 Posted March 1, 2016 Another feature of note is Wednesday evening night into the early hours Thursday which isn't on the local forecast. So another spell of rain late evening could well move into the area turning to Snow again leaving another covering for Thursday morning as another secondary low transfers into the north sea aft6er the first one. Friday looks interesting as well.
 Share this content via...
