euclid   10 #25 Posted August 30, 2012 The pub was called the Halfway House. It was pulled down around 1975 as well as terraced houses on Station road. I lived across the road from pub. All the houses nearby were demolished after being bought by compulsory purchase to enable the roundabout to be built  My grandparents lived in the row of terraced houses going down Station Rd next to the pub many years ago..my father was born there...i remember all the houses/shops etc around there at that time.... Chris_B_1983 Â Â 10 #26 Posted April 7, 2013 I am keen to hear memories of Halfway, specifically around the 70s and 80s, but any comments are welcome. Â Did you live there before the estates were built? Any stories from the time the building work took place? Characters from the area, local pubs etc are all of interest to me. MonkeyLover   10 #27 Posted April 7, 2013 I used to live at Mosborough, and went to Westfield lower school, which was roughly opposite where Morrisons is now. We used to have to walk home after school, and sometimes in the lunchtime, had to walk to the upper school, at the end of Westfield crescent in Mosborough, to attend afternoon classes. At the crossroads, where the roundabout and tram terminus is now, there was a little shop, can't remember the name of it though. That would be round about 1964. I remember going to the dentist in Eckington one lunchtime and walking back, alone, up the hill towards the school. I was propositioned by a young man who came out with some lewd suggestions. When I got, back to the school, I,went and told a teacher. They got the police involved and I had to tell the police exactly what the bloke had said to me, in front of my parents. I was so embarrassed.
 Share this content via...
Chris_B_1983 Â Â 10 #28 Posted April 8, 2013 Hi MonkeyLover, Â When I came to live in Halfway, the lower school had just been demolished, although the tiled floors and steps, as well as some part of the walls were still around. Â I once broke my thumb there as a kid by trying to get into a manhole cover, which I suspected led to the corridors under the school. Â It was also a place famed for its legendary pornography. All the kids would go down on 'wessy' to look at pictures of naked ladies; I don't know why the porn mags were in that particular place, but there you go. Â I attended the Westfield School at the end of Westfield Crescent, and was there to see that one demolished. Luckily, I didn't break any thumbs that time around. Longy1712 Â Â 10 #30 Posted October 20, 2015 Hi, I was born in Halfway but know quite little about it, I know there was a pub called the Halfway House down where the tram stop now is and that there used to be a school opposite the Morrisons roundabout, I used to play on the old fields of the demolished School as a kid in the early 90s as they were right next to where I lived (Sewell Road). Â Would love to see some old pictures and maps of Halfway and learn some history of the area. The road I grew up on, Sewell Road, looks like it would have been a fairly early addition to the area, the houses are totally different to rest of Halfway and there is only 20 houses on the road, would love to see pictures of my road from old residents. Â Thank you in advance.
 Share this content via...

Down in the bottom left corner is a slider to bring up a modern overlay on top of the old map. (you may need to go full screen) If you explore this site you can get maps from all different years. Also Picture Sheffield is always worth a try. Edited October 25, 2015 by Boginspro Forgot to mention.
 Share this content via...

VicD Â Â 10 #35 Posted November 18, 2015 When I was a kid we lived in Rotherham and my Grandparents lived in Staveley, I'm pretty sure that on some of the buses you had to change at Halfway. Not really about Halfway but not so far away, my Dad used to say to us kids lets make a Killamarsh fender, basically we would sit in a semi-circle round the fire. (coalfire of course) Anyone else heard this?
 Share this content via...
