Useful script to recover OS licence key

Recommended Posts

Manage to sort someone's PC out who had accidentally upgraded to 10 from 8.1.

Fortunately the machine being HP had a 'factory restore' option, which you access by pressing the Escape (Esc top left of keyboard) at boot time to choose boot options. Now where does the script come in? Well I pointed out that now that they have a DVD without the licence key from here:

and after a restore use the handy script lower down on this page for when the hard drive eventually fails and you have to install a new one:

This will also prove useful for people running Notebooks with Windows 7 on.

I avoid that website like the plague - been known for lots of spyware in the past - once bitten twice shy! :D

Never had any problems with that site myself but it is also available on plenty of others as well.

And for those who aren't aware, you can downgrade very easily from 10 down to 7 or 8(.1) if you decide 10 isnt for you, or it was done by mistake.
