Sheffield local elections - May 2016

Recommended Posts

Other than halving the size of Central and its neighbouring effects, the new wards across Sheffield are very close to the previous wards, so the defending situation going into the elections is more or less this map.

Thank you as always for your excellent stats and maps of the local elections. Is there any chance you could change either the colour of UKIP or the Conservatives on that map as I'm really struggling to tell the difference between the 2...sorry to be fussy!

Perhaps if the Conservatives had a councillor it would cause a problem but, as they haven't, then all the blue ones are UKIP.

Chances are we'll get Labour again, to be fair they've not done a terrible job.

Streets Ahead is happening, stuff is happening on the long stalled city centre regeneration (well they've been on some nice holidays)

To be fair the centre of town is looking much better than it did a few years ago.

What a pity they let it get into that state to start with.

Ah, that might explain it then! :D

Can you not download (or colour-print) it?

No need, see my answer above.

It's scandalous that our electoral system doesn't result in a single Conservative councillor to represent something like a quarter of the people who voted in Sheffield.

A quarter? Where did you get that from? The Conservatives didn't even get that in Fulwood and Ecclesall last year. The percentage in Darnall, Manor, etc, would take the average down to a lot less.

How many do you think that they should have then? None? Or a few?

As many as the current electoral system as supported by the Conservative government gives them.

You roll over too easily.

It doesn't change the fact that there is a significant percentage of Sheffield's popuation with no representation of their views, and worse, no prospect of it under the current electoral system. That is the scandal.

Any current government is neither here nor there because none has shown any interest in reform. It undermines democracy which results in lower and lower turnouts.

Well it is actually because it's the government that decides what the electoral system is going to be. If the Conservatives are happy with a system that gives them no elected representation on the council then you can't blame anyone but the government.
