Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm looking for somewhere nice in the Peak District for a small family BBQ?

Never done it before, any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance! :)

Make sure it's a bbq with legs which won't scorch the ground, defo don't use a disposable one. Take all your crap home with you :)

This isn't necessarily aimed at you, but anyone else has has a search for 'peak bbq' on sheffieldforum.

And have a great time :)

You must ask the landowner first for permission to start a fire and to allow a gathering of people on their land.

National Parks own no land and are areas to be enjoyed by all. Consider how a barbecue enhances the enjoyment of others

All the land is owned privately. The two biggest landowners are the National Trust and Seven Trent which say that fires and barbecues are generally not allowed. The high moors are businesses that people earn a living from and they can deny access to all of us by the misuse of some. Hundreds of fires and thousands of hectares are destroyed each year.

Peak District NP

National Trust

There were two large fires on the moors above Sheffield on Friday afternoon showing how dry it is up there at the moment.

Yeah, not a good idea in the Peak District. Get owner's permission if you really need to set fire to something.

Picnics are not frowned on though and are much more in keeping with the countryside. As has also been mentioned, always take your rubbish home with you (or use a bin if one's available), as well as anyone else's if you see it, although generally, most people respect the countryside. :)

If you check out speleo1's links, Severn Trent Water provide BBQ stands at some of their sites.
