barmyowls   11 #61 Posted January 8, 2016 Great opportunity for you there to apply then and finally show them how it's gone for real rather than running it down on here.  not running it down. hence why I said I don't know if it was a good thing or bad. however I would like to see the turn over of the amount of staff the school has had - must be a reason why so many teachers have left .when we was all told it was going to be the best school in sheffield  ---------- Post added 08-01-2016 at 15:39 ----------  The RS teacher left for personal reasons, nothing to do with the running of the school.  ok I herd a different reason from a staff member . but thanks for telling us
 Share this content via...

Ms Macbeth   75 #63 Posted January 9, 2016 (edited) Three Parents mornings advertised here: http://www.forgevalleysheffield.org/news/year-5-parents-mornings/  Surely these drop ins give parents a good opportunity to see for themselves? Although I have no one at the school, I think it's great to have a school with a 6th form locally, as they tend to produce better results than those without. Also it means children can continue their secondary education without the disruption of moving on at sixteen. In my experience, few children go through school with no issues, I can remember my concerns over both mine, for different reasons.  It looks as if the school is heading in the right direction in terms of results judging by last year's performance. Isn't that good news? I've had a look at the website, it seems pretty informative, and the pictures of the children are great. They all look so smart and it appears the school has been getting good reports about pupils who have represented Forge Valley.  Perhaps there's a bit of this: https://artofeducation.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/parents-yelling-at-teachers.jpg Edited January 9, 2016 by Ms Macbeth
 Share this content via...
bazjea   10 #64 Posted January 9, 2016 Good to see the improvements in results in 2015 Would hope that parents who have problems related to the school, take advantage of the drop-ins, to discuss their childrens education.
 Share this content via...
Walkley0 Mum   10 #65 Posted January 20, 2016 Good to see the improvements in results in 2015 Would hope that parents who have problems related to the school, take advantage of the drop-ins, to discuss their childrens education.  After my recent experience, the drop-ins, while welcome are no more than a sop. They still fail to deliver on significant problems- with little depth of expertise on how to deal with poor behaviour or supporting students with additional needs. All they offer is platitudes.  The results: After seeing in class behaviour while being escorted to a meeting in school I'll be surprised if last years results were anything but a blip. If any child was learning anything in the classes we passed it really would be a miracle.
 Share this content via...

Doing nothing is not a solution.
 Share this content via...
ah1975 Â Â 10 #67 Posted January 20, 2016 The drop in's above are for parents of current Y5 pupils. Does the school have drop in for parents of current pupils listed somewhere ?
 Share this content via...

Doing nothing is not a solution.  Agree.  Doing nothing seems to be their only real option. Muttering apologies and mumbling promises that I know will be broken doen't appease, just angers. The management seem to be paralised by lack of knowledge about what to do when confronted with problems. They offer two courses of action: 1. We'll exclude/isolate for a couple of days. 2:We're sorry and the individual will be dealt with- i.e. Do nothing.  There's no attempt to deal with the root cause of the problems which, whatever other problems the school had, I'm sure they used to do. Ms Macbeth   75 #69 Posted January 21, 2016 Has anyone gone down the complaints route about specific issues? It may be longwinded, but if something serious isn't being dealt with, then it should be worth it. Information about complaining about acadamies is included.  https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/education/about-us/cyps/complaints/schools.html
 Share this content via...
amazon123 Â Â 17 #70 Posted January 21, 2016 The major problem with schools such as this is terrible behaviour from students, endorsed by parents. Obviously this isn't the case for all/many parents, but all it takes is for a significant minority of pupils and families to be disruptive and schools are stuck, bound by an obsession (enforced from above) with "inclusion." ah1975 Â Â 10 #71 Posted January 21, 2016 I've have been to a drop in this morning & could not believe how quiet & well behaved the pupils were in lessons I observed & in lessons I walked past. I also observed the break time and again think the behaviour of the pupils at Forge Valley was impeccable. A report out today would also indicate they are now ahead of Bradfield School. Like others have said why not take any complaints down the official road if you are not happy take it further. I personally was very impressed after this mornings visit. Â Having recently visited another secondary school in Sheffield which I found to be quite intimidating with not a great deal of control or respect from the pupils I think parents should be proud of the school, there is far far worse out there believe me ! I complained about issues arising under the previous management (pre academy) and I supported somebody else submitting a complaint in 2015.
