chem1st   10 #1 Posted September 19, 2015 Landlords who commit housing offences must face tougher punishments, including jail sentences, the Local Government Association (LGA) has said. The LGA, which represents councils in England and Wales, said many rogue landlords were receiving "paltry" fines for breaching housing rules. In one case 10 people, including children, were living in a property infested with cockroaches and mice. Currently the highest penalty for housing offences is a fine. The LGA said a small minority of landlords were "creating misery" for tenants. 'It makes no difference' In theory fines can be unlimited, but the LGA said a lack of guidelines was forcing magistrates to take landlords' financial circumstances into consideration during sentencing, resulting in "paltry fines".  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34298818  Landlords are basically evil, and they cause massive amounts of suffering, they exploit the poorest, and cram them into poor quality accommodation.  This can lead to outbreaks of contagious disease! - Landlords are much more damaging to your health than smokers. Second hand disease and poverty from landlords is everywhere, it is rife.  How do we tackle it?  Simples. Lock them up.  We should probably bring back the death penalty for them too. FACT. chem1st   10 #4 Posted September 19, 2015 Would any of this apply to the owners of holiday cottages or similar?  Possibly. And to be fair, landlords should welcome the possibility of jail, it might be the safest place for them. Public mood has changed, and the tenantariat will soon be in power and seeking to punish the rentiers for the injustices of the parasitic period. Gamston   10 #6 Posted September 19, 2015 They should also send tenants to jail who cause thousands of pounds worth of damage to properties , don't pay the rent and require court orders to get them evicted .
 Share this content via...

chem1st   10 #8 Posted September 19, 2015 But where would we be without 'Homes under the hammer'?  We could have homes under the hammer and sickle instead. Instead of seeing somebody who has amassed housing wealth primarily due to being lucky enough to be born in the right year to benefit from government housing market manipulation in their favour, use debt to speculate upon overpriced housing, whilst benefiting from further government interference in their favour, which forces (generally young) propertyless people to pay large sums to (generally old) idle property owners.  Homes under the hammer and sickle could instead be a new kind of property porn, where young disadvanatged citizens are awarded council houses so that they might have a chance to live a dignified life, like their ancestors.  ---------- Post added 19-09-2015 at 20:16 ----------  but despite your ranting your own post refers to "a small minority of landlords".  Landlords are a small minority.
