RonJeremy   10 #49 Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) It's an island, not a country  It's actually a group of Islands - including Wight, Scilly and some of those Scottish places: Sky, Mull etc. Obviously there are too many to mention.  ---------- Post added 18-09-2015 at 09:24 ----------  Ill take that bet. alchresearch   207 #51 Posted September 18, 2015 The National Anthem should be about the country not the Queen.  Agreed, Rule Britannia would be my choice - upbeat and just a touch jingoistic.
 Share this content via...
RootsBooster   24 #52 Posted September 18, 2015 (edited) Do you not think Great Britain is a country ?  No, I think it's a state made up (mostly) of three countries. Edited September 18, 2015 by RootsBooster
 Share this content via...
Gamston   10 #53 Posted September 18, 2015 No, I think it's a state made up (mostly) of three countries.  It's all a little confusing because someone from England can be proud to represent their country in the Olympics and another person from England can be proud to represent their country playing football . Both people can be proud when their National Anthem is played .
 Share this content via...

Gamston   10 #55 Posted September 18, 2015 I don't see anything confusing about that, England is the country  England is not a country according to a list of countries .  I have looked under the letter 'E' and can't see England . I have looked under the letter 'F' and can see Fiji who England are playing in the Rugby Union World Cup this evening . I have looked under the letter 'U' and can see United Kingdom which is a short version for The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .  https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries
 Share this content via...

I have looked under the letter 'U' and can see United Kingdom which is a short version for The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .  https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries  Then I suggest you look around a bit more. That list was probably compiled by someone who isn't British, the Americans are prone to mistaking the United Kingdom and/or Great Britain for a country. Most other countries refer to the UK as a country, you may find that in many DVD menus, electronics settings etc, the only option for us is UK, which makes sense as there'd be little point in having separate England/Scotland/Wales categories if they all contain the same settings.  http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/geography/beginner-s-guide/administrative/the-countries-of-the-uk/index.html  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Countries_of_the_United_Kingdom  http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/01/the-difference-between-the-uk-england-and-great-britain/
 Share this content via...
