Why should god save the queen?

Recommended Posts

It's an island, not a country

It's actually a group of Islands - including Wight, Scilly and some of those Scottish places: Sky, Mull etc. Obviously there are too many to mention.

I think the person you want to have a bet with is more qualified as a tit than Cameron .

The National Anthem should be about the country not the Queen.

Agreed, Rule Britannia would be my choice - upbeat and just a touch jingoistic.

Do you not think Great Britain is a country ?

No, I think it's a state made up (mostly) of three countries.

It's all a little confusing because someone from England can be proud to represent their country in the Olympics and another person from England can be proud to represent their country playing football . Both people can be proud when their National Anthem is played .

England is not a country according to a list of countries .

I have looked under the letter 'E' and can't see England . I have looked under the letter 'F' and can see Fiji who England are playing in the Rugby Union World Cup this evening . I have looked under the letter 'U' and can see United Kingdom which is a short version for The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland .

I have a lapel badge with the Union Jack depicted .

I some times see people staring at my badge as though it is not P.C should I not wear it in case it offends some people.

Then I suggest you look around a bit more. That list was probably compiled by someone who isn't British, the Americans are prone to mistaking the United Kingdom and/or Great Britain for a country.

Most other countries refer to the UK as a country, you may find that in many DVD menus, electronics settings etc, the only option for us is UK, which makes sense as there'd be little point in having separate England/Scotland/Wales categories if they all contain the same settings.

Can you describe how someone stares at something as though they think it's not PC?

What makes you think it might offend someone?
