My Kids are coming to the age at which they may take drugs.

Recommended Posts

When I say drugs, I mean illegal drugs, not Alcohol, which is legal, taxed and controlled in measure. My concern is whether to talk to them about it and accept that they may try substances, which may give my tacit acceptance that they will which in turn may not discourage them from doing it. Or to ignore it.

Obviously I'd be happier if they didn't but people do and I don't want them to die from overdose.

This piece on Unilad has really opened my mind to it...

http://www.unilad.co.uk/drugs/why-have-mdma-overdoses-reached-an-all-time-high/

All suggestions, other than the uninformed "all drugs are evil" "all drug dealers are evil" nonsense would be appreciated.

How old are they dude?

I'd prefer not to give their exact ages on here but the oldest is 16

Tell them to respect their bodies and what goes into them as their body is a temple. Their body needs to last them a lifetime. Remind them you don't get old at 60, but slow down in your 30s, look at footballers! Tell them about all the crap that drug dealers mix with hard drugs, such as rat poison, just to make the drugs stretch further. Tell them they would be better off going to a gym and leading a healthy lifestyle, then when they meet their friends ten years later, see who will have the better body then. Don't let the drug barons make money out of or destroy them. Remind them to control their habits, before their habits control them.

Talking to your children should never be a concern..the opposite maybe a concern though.

Drugs are only one of many negative aspects children need to feel they have the ear of their parents...as well as peers.

Let them know how you feel. Set the boundaries but whatever you do don't get heavy and don't use scare stories about overdoses. The reality is your kid at 16 will know many in their cohort who have experimented already and may even know of some regular users. Kids are clued up and have access to loads of online resources.

Most of all don't worry too much. They're going to try stuff be it drugs, sex or whatever. All part of growing g up.

No!! We have chats about that, but I have no problem with them doing that. I just pop them in front of one of daddy's home videos.

Don't worry, they're much more likely to drink themselves to death if you look at the stats.

if they go to a party, I'll tell them not to drink too much. Stay one drink behind the others. And don't mix your drinks.

I can't see me saying "don't take too much E tonight love. Oh and don't mix your heroin with cocaine. "
