Looked at Sheffield in Google Earth recently?

Care to expand more ? Is something wrong with it ? We have had 3d for ages in Sheffield.

Try it! You may be surprised (Turn 3D buildings on).

Wowzers! That's had an upgrade. It's a bit rough round the edges, but looks like it will be amazing.

Mine looks like a kids pop-up book, is something wrong with it?

There are some very, very interesting technologies behind this and the future application possibilities are tremendous. I hadn't seen it for a while, thanks for the reminder!

The last time I looked there wasn't a 3D model in place for every house and every tree within the city limits.

It's a fairly recent development.

It looks like they've used the photographic data to computationally extrapolate height, roof pitch, tree shape etc etc.

Makes a big difference to just a couple of dozen buildings, now there are literally thousands and thousands. And even more trees.

If you whack the height exaggeration up to 3, it looks very amusing.

I would hazard to say it looks better in Google Earth (the software).
