cassity   10 #38 Posted September 4, 2015 How do you sever a gas pipe while resurfacing? It sounds like AMEY are not up to the job!? I hope there is an investigation... Thankfully all that's happened has been disruption to residents and police/fire etc having to deal with the incident - but it could have been MUCH worse.  AMEY weren't the contractors. Paddy   10 #39 Posted September 4, 2015 AMEY weren't the contractors.  Who was it then? AMEY are the contractors who are doing the resurfacing of the roads and pavements around Sheffield and the gas pipe was damaged during this work. AndrewC   306 #42 Posted September 4, 2015 SCC have confirmed the contractor was AMEY and National Grid have confirmed damage by a 3rd party  AMEY weren't the contractors.  cassity, do you know who it was? The council seemed to have named AMEY - was it someone doing something on behalf of AMEY? Just curious?
 Share this content via...

Just curious?  David Flynn Ltd are the onsite resurfacing contractors.  It ultimately may be AMEY's responsibility but they didn't cause the problem.  ---------- Post added 04-09-2015 at 12:57 ----------  Covered on ITV News http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/story/2015-09-03/several-homes-evacuated-after-sheffield-gas-leak/  Seems odd that a figure of around 100 homes were evacuated when Cruise Rd alone has more than 100 homes. Not all the homes on Cruise Rd were within the cordon.
 Share this content via...
cassity   10 #45 Posted September 4, 2015 Only homes that fell within the 100m evacuation cordon were evacuated. Not all the homes on Cruise Rd were within the cordon.  Number 84 was evacuated. All the other houses on that Rd are closer to the point of leak. That figure doesn't include Fulney, Westwood, Oakbrook, Oakbrook Ct. I and others were evacuated and further from the centre than anyone on Cruise Rd alone.
 Share this content via...
