Guided Railway Walks

RAILWAY RAMBLES with the PENISTONE LINE PARTNERSHIP

 

Support use of the local train services on the scenic ‘Penistone Line’ ( Sheffield>Meadowhall>Barnsley>Penistone>Huddersfield).

 

Walks are also held using the Sheffield >Worksop> Retford> Lincoln line and the ‘Brigg Line’ (Sheffield > Gainsborough Central>Kirton Lindsey> Brigg>Cleethorpes).

 

Walks are held on the first and third Saturdays each month.

 

All are welcome to join in these ‘railway rambles’ – the walks are free but train or bus fares apply.

Wear suitable clothing & footwear – bring along a packed lunch & drink.

 

Trains depart from SHEFFIELD and MEADOWHALL stations.

Saturday SEPTEMBER 5th 2015 – A Church, A Hall & A Tunnel !

 

A varied walk with some interesting local history.

(bus opt out at Wortley).

 

Start: 9.25am at ELSECAR. Finish: SILKSTONE COMMON.

Distance: 11 or 6 miles.

A route visiting a chantry chapel, Boston Castle, Whiston and Treeton churches along our way.

 

Start: 10.10 am at ROTHERHAM CENTRAL. Finish: WOODHOUSE.

Distance: 10 miles.

Saturday OCTOBER 3rd 2015 – Grand Designs !

 

A look at some of Huddersfield’s buildings, art and architecture, with a mix of urban and countryside landscapes.

(meet outside Huddersfield station at the Harold Wilson statue).

 

Start: 10am at HUDDERSFIELD. Finish: BROCKHOLES.

Distance: 9 miles.

A route via Norwood, Spinkhill to Barlborough to return via Harthill reservoir.

Start: 10.05am at KIVETON BRIDGE. Finish: KIVETON BRIDGE.

Distance: 11½ or 7 miles.

Saturday OCTOBER 31st 2015 – From Cuckoo To Mallard !

 

A lovely route in North Nottinghamshire following the Cuckoo Way alongside the Chesterfield Canal towpath to finish at the delightful Mallard bar on Worksop station.

(bus opt out at Ranby).

 

Start: 10.30am at RETFORD Finish: WORKSOP

Distance: 10 or 5 miles.
