Which Demolished Sheffield Building Would You Rebuild?

Recommended Posts

Hi Stpetre, I think Norwood Hall was on left opposite the road leading

to Longley Est, on that corner is two shops and buses pass on that rd

to Longley. hope that helps you.

--------

PS, When that hall was knocked down they had Bunglows built on

that land.

Thank you Brian, from what I gather it was on the left of Herries Road -coming away from Firvale-, perhaps between the opposite of Longley Lane towards the same side of but before the old 'Essoldo' cinema ?

The corner I believe, with the shops, was Longley Lane, where one of the Southey Green buses (97-98 ?) made a right turn. That turn would be on the Northern General side of Herries Road.

Yes, the 98 turned right into Longley Lane. Norwood Hall was always known as Bishopsholme in my early years; it was the location of a barrage balloon during WW2. I understood that the 'Hall' and Norwood Grange were commandeered for ARP and military use between 1939 and 1945.

Yes - it is shown as Bishopsholme on a map of 1939. Here is a link to the map, with a modern aerial view adjoining.

I remember as a lad walking past the old Corn Exchange before it were pulled down in the early 60's - most of if was burned out in the late 40' s and never built back, shame cus it looks like one hell of a building
