stpetre   12 #109 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) ----------------- Hi Stpetre, I think Norwood Hall was on left opposite the road leading to Longley Est, on that corner is two shops and buses pass on that rd to Longley. hope that helps you. -------- PS, When that hall was knocked down they had Bunglows built on that land.  Thank you Brian, from what I gather it was on the left of Herries Road -coming away from Firvale-, perhaps between the opposite of Longley Lane towards the same side of but before the old 'Essoldo' cinema ?  ---------- Post added 15-12-2015 at 19:08 ----------  ----------------- Hi Stpetre, I think Norwood Hall was on left opposite the road leading to Longley Est, on that corner is two shops and buses pass on that rd to Longley. hope that helps you. -------- PS, When that hall was knocked down they had Bunglows built on that land.  The corner I believe, with the shops, was Longley Lane, where one of the Southey Green buses (97-98 ?) made a right turn. That turn would be on the Northern General side of Herries Road. Edited December 15, 2015 by stpetre add
 Share this content via...
Voldy   10 #110 Posted December 15, 2015 Yes, the 98 turned right into Longley Lane. Norwood Hall was always known as Bishopsholme in my early years; it was the location of a barrage balloon during WW2. I understood that the 'Hall' and Norwood Grange were commandeered for ARP and military use between 1939 and 1945.
 Share this content via...

hillsbro   27 #113 Posted December 16, 2015 Norwood Hall was evidently renamed "Bishopsholme" in 1919 when it became the residence of Leonard Hedley Burrows, the first Bishop of Sheffield - see here.
 Share this content via...
