Mikado milk bar, Firth Park

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know when the Mikado Milk Bar on Stubbin Lane at Firth Park was opened? I remember my father taking me in in the early 50s to have a Vimto!

My Mum moved to Firth Park in 1947 and she can't remember it being anything else.

To judge from entries in Kelly's directories it opened between 1924 and 1930..:)

First port of call after watching the Batman and Robin serial at the Paragon cinama.

we would run into the shop with our navy macs buttoned at the neck to resemble the deadly duo and order a sarsperilla with the last of our weekly shilling spending money.

After it was spent it would be the odd beer bottle returned to the off liscense during the week.

Happy days.

I think I remember that the Norrises took over in the early 60s. Brian was in my class at Hucklow road.

I know Brian had an elder brother but I can't remember his name.
