This was a decent pub shame it didn't last!!

Are you talking about the Riverside on the bottom of Walkley lane where it meets Holme Lane? I wasn't aware it was shut/shutting!

It all boils back down to the landlord, decent landlord, decent clientele.

I would say that if it is closing down. It would be due to the competion

from Weatherspoons directly opposite, plus 3 other pubs within about 50 yards.

I Wouldn't go out drinking in Hillsboro for a golden pig.

Things must have gone downhill I suppose. When I lived on Minto Rd in the late seventies I used to love popping in the Mason's and the Ball, when I went out locally. They were both good pubs and always busy.

I used to DJ in the riverside 2014/ till September 2015 and we used to be busier than weatherspoons. We had to turn coustomers away because we was full!

It was a really enjoyable place too work till the landlord got too big for his boots and changed. I left 5 months later he left and it's not been same.. They are struggling to make end meet now

Iv heard on the grapevine that a hammer was involved on the windows.

Big holes in the windows then?.

Does look like a airgun , there was a shooting incident not so long ago inside . I not been in pub for yrs to be onest thought it was picking up ?

A huge difference between hammer holes and a very small airgun pellet hole.

Angel.

You might be thinking of The Riverside on Catchbar Lane.

Gone upmarket lately then.............................

I did think that Hillsborough has gone up market and is now a desirable place to live and go out in ? Does anyone still go in the Blue Ball ? :-)

There are more cameras around the Blue Ball than at Area 51, its incredible.
