Spotter14 Â Â 10 #1 Posted July 27, 2015 We have a long haired German Shepherd that does not take too kindly to being groomed on his stomach and between back legs and he now has some matted coat there. The last time this happened the vet did it whilst he was sedated but does anyone know of a good groomer that will allow us to stay with him whilst it is being done , any help appreciated thank you
 Share this content via...
*Peaches* Â Â 10 #2 Posted July 27, 2015 Try asking the Vet for a sedative to help, maybe try someone mobile? Â What area are you in?
 Share this content via...

kazbar   10 #4 Posted August 13, 2015 try fluffball grooming at handsworth. only one dog booked in at a time so you would probably be allowed to stay with your dog. it is at 32 ballifield drive. 07551846012
 Share this content via...
H_Hounds   10 #5 Posted August 14, 2015 Firstly, you need to get your dog accustomed to wearing it's own muzzle if you wish to use a groomer if the dog is unwilling - for the safety of the groomer.  I have never had great results with dogs that have been prescribed drugs to help them settle for grooming. If the dog is sedated, it would need to be clipped at the vets where a nurse can monitor the dog closely.  If your dog is happy to wear a muzzle, and you manage to find a groomer who will allow you to stay, I would ask them to de-sensitize the dog to clippers before you try to clip it's belly. This may take a few sessions. And at home, de-sensitize the dog to having its belly touched with lots of high value rewards. All whilst wearing the muzzle - repetition and short positive sessions are best.  If you can't find a groomer who will allow you to stay, it would be worth contacting a grooming school for a few lessons to learn to groom your GSD at home.  Hope this helps! growup   10 #6 Posted August 21, 2015 I use Cassie's on fox hill road. My bearded collie hates her legs being groomed and under her belly. She is really good and deals with the long coat really well. She is also very reasonably priced. I don't know what experience she has with German Shepherds but she is definitely worth a call.
