Timeh   10 #145 Posted August 29, 2015 If you want to play that idiot's game, who killed 135,000 people on 6th August 1945?  Thats different. Its always different when the US are doing the killing. AMERICUUUUR!!
 Share this content via...
unbeliever   10 #146 Posted August 29, 2015 If you want to play that idiot's game, who killed 135,000 people on 6th August 1945?  The US. But that was calculated to bring swiftly to an end, a war which would otherwise have claimed a great many more lives. 36 million already in the pacific war with no end in sight. An awful lot of them were enemy civilians. The lesser of 2 evils if you think about it with a clear head.
 Share this content via...
Timeh   10 #147 Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) He's right you know. It's not hard to look these things up. There were no good guys in the crusades. 2 peoples of different faiths hacking each other up, and anybody else they passed along the way, over land that neither side had any particular claim to. Looking back at that period is useful because it teaches us that back then, we were no different to the way that IS are now. But IS are still like that. We're not perfect, but we've come a hell of a long way since then. IS have not. There's no place for them in the modern world.  True. We can now kill people far more effectively than they could during the crusades. Something to be proud of?  ---------- Post added 29-08-2015 at 11:10 ----------  The US. The Russians were about to invade and the US merely wanted to test their new toy whilst at the same time putting the ruskies in their place by showing them what they had. There was NO strategic reason for the bombs. None! Thats just a lie peddled since the war to make it look justified. unbeliever   10 #148 Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) True. We can now kill people far more effectively than they could during the crusades. Something to be proud of?  Do you see western forces deliberately targeting civilians? Do you see western troops using captured women as sex slaves, throwing homosexuals off buildings, beheading people on camera? There's no comparison.    No no no no no! Japan were beat, they knew this. Thats just a lie peddled since the war to make it look justified.  Japan were certainly on the retreat, but every scrap of land taken from them came with very heavy casualties on both sides. Trying to actually take Japan with conventional forces would have meant wiping out a very large, conscripted, poorly trained Japanese military on their own soil. We'd have ended up killing far more of them, and losing a great many of our own people in the process.  Unless you're suggesting that western forces should not have conquered Japan? Japans people were hungry, homeless and scared and their towns an cities destroyed. America could have sent a few 1000 troops and barely faced any opposition. They knew this but tested their new toy anyway. Remember they didnt drop it on military targets as japan pretty much had none. No, they dropped them on civilian areas and murdered 1000s Please look into it, dont believe the story written by the winners because its a lie.  ---------- Post added 29-08-2015 at 11:18 ----------  Do you see western forces deliberately targeting civilians?   Off the top of my head? Nagasaki, Hiroshima and Dresden to name just 3.
 Share this content via...
Halibut   12 #150 Posted August 29, 2015 Way wide of the point now, which was 'Is it Ok to walk in London with an IS flag?'.  The answer is that it's not a very good idea. There we go, done.
 Share this content via...

petemcewan   27 #152 Posted August 29, 2015 I wonder what our parents would have done ,about some one parading a Swastika around the streets in 1941.  I'm sure my farther (Light Infantry 1939 -1945 ) wouldn't have said," It's ok.He's only exercising his democratic rights. Start with US and Japanese casualties on the Japanese held Pacific islands in the lead up to the planned attack on Japan itself. You're trying to replace historical facts with baseless opinion and it's ridiculous.
 Share this content via...
