hillsbro   32 #4 Posted June 27, 2015 In the book Street Names of Sheffield, Peter Harvey states that "an old windmill stood nearby. In the 1856 directory Robert Thorpe is listed as miller". The mill cannot have been a very large one as it isn't shown on old large-scale maps that would normally have shown a windmill, such as this one of the 1840s that shows only a group of houses on "Windmill Hill".
