Sheffield Veterans/Armed Forces Day

Recommended Posts

I'am 68 years old but have never felt as proud to be British after speaking to a war veteran. He told me that he was 93 years old and had served in the Desert Rats and fought in Alamein, he also told me that there was 5000 still living today. We have all got a lot to be thankful for.

Yes they have my thanks. I can post my opinions on here knowing we live in a free country thanks to their hard work and sacrifice. Lest We Forget.

Good to see the armed forces welcomed in Sheffield and enjoyed the entertainment in the Peace Gardens.

I wondered if the "Singing Major" was actually a serving soldier.

Lovely to see all that in town today. Some very smart young forces cadets down there too - what a credit they were to their parents - some real smart turn outs!

The "Singing Major" is a serving soldier, he is the recruitment officer for

Sheffield and surrounding area.

I had heard that but was unsure if it was correct.

How the army has changed since my day !

I didn't find out about it until a few day ago and couldn't alter my plans. I hope the organizers can give more notice next time. Hope everyone had a great day.

Odd how Sheffield Council allow this event but don't publicise it much.

It would not be because that don't charge them a fortune for their 'stalls' would it? Nor would it be because they are british?

Surely not.

They never seem to advertise anything very well, I don't think there's any reason to suppose this is any different.

Ever thought of doing a simple search to find what is happening.

Yes, OK, I could,

but not that many 90 year old veterans are computer savvy.

Or even many of those over 65.

I am not 90, but certainly well over 70. As are many of my ex forces friends

who are also computer savvy. Please do not patronise the older generation
