barmyowls   11 #1 Posted June 15, 2015 Forge Valley schools Dinner time for pupils is to be cut if the plans go ahead , at min they get 40mins but they want this now to be cut to 30 mins abit fed up of this school making any Rule they wish ?  The reason behind it all parents are told is because Theres a limited space in dinning hall for all pupils/teachers .  As always they are doing a non-public consultation abit like they did with the new uniform however most parents did not agree with the uniform but it went ahead anyway - with the school saying parents wanted it ???  my point is I think a public consultation should be done - so we really know what parents want .  also I think dinner times are for pupils to mix with friends n enjoy there time . at this rate the school is becoming like a robot work place
 Share this content via...

Bludragonfly   10 #3 Posted June 15, 2015 I don't see what the problem is as long as there is enough time for all students to eat school/packed lunch  Children can socialise before/after school and at breaks so that lunch is for eating
 Share this content via...
Hesther   10 #4 Posted June 15, 2015 It doesn't leave time for any lunchtime clubs/revision sessions does it? Children need a decent lunchtime break if they are at school all day.
 Share this content via...
chocki   13 #5 Posted June 15, 2015 Less time for them to cause mayhem and throw their rubbish about around the shops. Looks a tip after they've been around
 Share this content via...
damageandy   10 #6 Posted June 15, 2015 Less time for them to cause mayhem and throw their rubbish about around the shops. Looks a tip after they've been around  im sure the shops dont mind the business they bring to them. 40mins is way too short let alone 30mins, cant even have a good kickabout in that time, know wonder kiddies are getting tubby. Hook   10 #7 Posted June 15, 2015 Schools do not have to legally consult on the internal timings of the school day, they only have to legally consult on changing the start and finish times of the day. Once that is agreed they can do what they like within that framework.  This '30 minute' lunch is also becoming common in many schools, especially those built under BSF. The argument that is often used is that the building isn't small enough. I am sceptical of this, I know at the school I work at they blame it on health & safety. However the real reason is that the SLT have to patrol the school when all students are on the same lunch break, and they seem rather reticent to do that. It's too much hard work for them.  With that done and said, there's nothing you can do to stop them changing it.
 Share this content via...

Mr Bloke   1,445 #10 Posted June 15, 2015 Not every year/form will have their lunch at the same time, it will be split. Ah, so it's so that they can have more 'sittings' in the same time... got it!  Thanks!
 Share this content via...
loopylulu   10 #11 Posted June 15, 2015 Yrs 7,9 and 11 will have dinner at 1220 until 1250 - yrs 8 and 10 will have dinner 1320 until 1350. The school day will also finish at 1450.  Kids use breaks and lunchtime not only to have dinner, but to socialise too, and not all kids choose to socialise outside of school. To some children school is there socialising part of life aswell.  They only have one break as it is at forge valley. It's not fair to cut there dinner time again, and for kids who have breakfast at 7am, having dinner at 1320 is too late, in my opinion.
