;)

Lol, you do have a point ,my stepfather had an uncle who was supposedly on a posse that chased Billy The Kid and he was a thorough bred Yorkshireman from Woodhouse Mill.

I used to know an old Liverpudlian back in the 50s who said Billy The Kid "was our kid"

I kid you not ;)

Didn't John Wayne say it was the most un-american film he had ever seen?

If that meant he didn't like it, maybe there was a little jealousy going on. fleetwood

........reckon old Marion would have loved to star in "High Noon" so agreed a bit of pro jealousy!

Who would not want to be in a John Ford western with those superb camera angle shots and Monument Valley!

Aren't you thinking of "The Searchers"? John Wayne was in that film.

......Yep! JW was in that film directed by JF

But what was his reason to say "High Noon " was the most un-American film?

According to one web site, it was because the male characters fell short of the ideals of the Old West i.e. they were obviously scared & declined to help the sheriff who was himself frightened. Also at the end of the film the sheriff, or is it Marshall, tears off his madge & treads it into the dust, thus showing contempt for authority. John Wayne could never have played the lead as the outcome would have been a certainty!
