sandy18 Â Â 10 #181 Posted September 11, 2015 I am not from Sheffield, and I have signed it. A Sheffield specific forum does cut down who will read it. There is a Sheffield pets section, many from other areas have pets too; what percentage of posters are from Sheffield? Â Same here, I signed it because trees are important and should not be cut down unless absolutely necessary.
 Share this content via...
Lotusflower   10 #182 Posted September 11, 2015 Why insult me by calling me a liar.I see from your previous posts that you called somebody a troll for holding an opposite opinion to you and you are insulting me in your first line that says something to me about you. They knocked on our door asking us to take part in legal action because of damage to pavements. We want nothing to do with it, even though we have to fork out to have gutters cleared every year, and we have roots breaking our path up and the pavement outside, and moss on the path from lack of daylight and have to have a light on all day, in summer, and gunge all over your windows, and leaves all over.So as I say, unless you have a tree outside you have no right to campaign on them. And before anyone says, why move to a house with a tree outside? That was 42 years ago when the trees were managed properly.  I did not call you a liar!  I made reference to the fact that you made an unsubstantiated statement, that is all!  I would never insult anyone on here by calling them a liar. That is a tactic I deplore. I will, however, challenge where statements are made without proof. Had you given as much information in your first post I would not have challenged you. We will have to agree to differ on the subject of who can campaign. Just because a tree is outside of someone else's property it does mean mean in any way, shape or form that they own the tree. Street trees belong to everybody!
 Share this content via...
Mindfulness   10 #183 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) FYI from SCC website:  We are unable to carry out work where:  Trees belong to private properties Falling leaves or fruit are causing an annoyance Falling blossom, sap or bird droppings are causing an annoyance Trees are blocking light or causing shade Trees are obstructing telephone wires (contact your telephone service provider) Trees are obstructing TV or satellite reception We do not remove trees for construction or widening of driveways  Strange that a number of these have suddenly become a convenient reason to fell healthy trees! Or not so strange when you understand Amey's real motives behind the felling of such trees on Sheffield's Highways. Also explains the discrepancy between treatment of Highway Trees and non Highway Trees..... Mindfulness   10 #185 Posted September 11, 2015 (edited) What will it take to make them listen?  A lawyer. Any chance of Rustling one up?  ---------- Post added 12-09-2015 at 01:05 ----------  Such mass felling will have a significant negative impact on the shape, size and distribution of canopy cover, which will in turn have a negative effect on the range, magnitude and value of the ecosystem services provided. By drastically altering the shape, size and distribution of canopy, this will have a negative impact on ecosystem services, which has a negative impact on health and well being. So who cares about 13 trees on one street? But its NOT just 13 trees. It’s a city wide felling programme over 5 years. It is NOT sustainable management, because ecological, economic and social functions are not being maintained. Saplings do not provide the same range, magnitude and value of ecosystem services as large crowned trees. Looking at a 1:60 ratio equivalent for large crowned trees to saplings. So 1:1 planting is just a nonsense 'replacement'! Edited September 12, 2015 by Mindfulness
 Share this content via...

Lotusflower   10 #187 Posted September 15, 2015 What's your source for saying there was no assessment?  They (SCC and Streets Ahead/Amey) do not do ecological impact assessments as part of their deliberations when assessing trees! Numerous people from the many local protest groups across the city have submitted FOI's and no group has received one. Other information has been provided and in other cases refused. This issue was raised at the last Tree Advisory Forum.  Ecological impact assessments are included in the contents of positive tree strategy documents adopted by other cities that, incidentally, do not claim to be one of the greenest in Europe. A copy of one such strategy document was presented to Councillor Fox a week in advance of that last Forum and he passed it on to a colleague unread by himself.  ---------- Post added 15-09-2015 at 16:11 ----------  They (SCC and Streets Ahead/Amey) do not do ecological impact assessments as part of their deliberations when assessing trees! Eric Arthur   10 #192 Posted September 16, 2015 Calm down dear, don't get your knickers in a twist so quickly and don't wind up people who are on your side.  I thought that it was interesting and a great example of people putting their money and time where their mouth is.  How did you get on with establishing if there are shared cost savings in the Amey / SCC contract?
