Tyranna   10 #2 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) Hello. As promised, here is a petition to save the Trees on Rustlings Road from felling and the evidence for why they are so important for our local community. http://chn.ge/1dtg74B  Please sign and share far and wide!  Good idea; several trees were chopped down on South STreet Park a few years ago, but at least the saplings that replaced them are growing well.  BTW, surely this thread should be moved to the 'Sheffield' Section? Mods Please Note! Edited May 26, 2015 by Tyranna mis spelling
 Share this content via...

El Cid   220 #4 Posted May 26, 2015  BTW, surely this thread should be moved to the 'Sheffield' Section? Mods Please Note!  I am not from Sheffield, and I have signed it. A Sheffield specific forum does cut down who will read it. There is a Sheffield pets section, many from other areas have pets too; what percentage of posters are from Sheffield? El Cid   220 #6 Posted May 26, 2015 (edited) The government says spending £4.2m on planting trees in towns and cities - particularly in deprived areas - it will improve the quality of people's lives.  Perhaps the planning department could force who ever to put some smaller trees in the place?  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11889768 Edited May 31, 2015 by El Cid
 Share this content via...
Mindfulness   10 #7 Posted May 27, 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-11889768  Interesting article, thankyou  "It is almost an accepted wisdom that a property positioned on a pretty tree-lined street surrounded by shrubbery is more appealing than its counterpart on a concrete-clad bare and barren road"  "Trees also encourage healthier lifestyles and studies have shown people are calmer when trees are in their environment"  ---------- Post added 27-05-2015 at 01:18 ----------  Please sign and share: http://chn.ge/1dtg74B
 Share this content via...
cgksheff   44 #8 Posted May 27, 2015 ......... Perhaps the planning department could force who ever to put some smaller trees in the place?  Assuming that you mean that the felled trees should have replacements? ......... that is exactly what is happening. Nagel   10 #9 Posted May 27, 2015 Here is Rustlings Road on Google street view - https://goo.gl/maps/FgQOJ  I did a virtual walk along it and counted about 30 trees. Which are proposed to be destroyed?  I signed the petition because I like Rustlings Road and the trees look great. We have similar 'pavement-destroying' lime trees on our street and I'd hate to see them go when Amey get around to doing their resurfacing here. From memory, when walking past, I think it includes a couple at each end on the houses (south) side of the road, but I don't know which others. Mindfulness   10 #12 Posted May 27, 2015 Tree walk, today!! 2pm rustlings road sandwich bar, at the junction with ecclesall road.  Come and show your support for these trees!!  Local radio and tv will be there......  ---------- Post added 27-05-2015 at 21:35 ----------  Here is an update from the petition: "Excellent turn out for the meeting today, approx thirty plus people and six officials from Amey and the Council. They announced that it was not a consultation, but two weeks notification and appeared to believe that this was a perfectly acceptable way of proceeding. It is not. Many residents and locals are still unaware that it is even proposed. Rustlings Road banks a public park and these trees are the heritage of the people of Sheffield. Today people were using the pathway with buggies and prams with no issue. Therefore we request an independent review for these twelve trees and proper consultation with a civil engineer to discuss pavement restructuring solutions. We urgently need your help in getting in touch with your Councillors (https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/roles-who/councillors.html) and MPs (https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/your-city-council/roles-who/mps.html). Lots of discussion occurring on Streetlife.com. Hope to see you there! :)"  ---------- Post added 27-05-2015 at 21:36 ----------  Please sign the petition here:  http://chn.ge/1dtg74B
 Share this content via...
