Maybe I am not using enough water!

2 Bed flat, 2 occupants, £25 a quarter. And I prefer baths over showers!

Technically you can actually get away with never paying a water bill as unlike Gas and Electric , they cant cut you of (1999 water act) or fit a prepayment meter

So your bill COULD be zero............

Why would you do that, it's a service you pay like everyone else has to?

My quarterly bill has also just come in, (2 bed semi - sole occupier) It's an enormous £36.37

I should have had a meter fitted years ago as the council are/were charging £9.00 per week.

Mine at Birdwell is £70 per month x 8 monthly payments.

There are 2 of us living in a private 3 bed semi.

Think I'll look into having a meter fitted.

You dont technically "have to" pay for it at all

Oddly, water is the one utility you HAVE to have by law. They are legally obliged to provide you with clean water. Whether you HAVE to pay for it, is another debate.

Yes indeed that is due to the 1999 water act introduced by labour, before that they could disconnect you.

They can however disconnect a business

They can't disconnect you, but they can go to court and set the bailiffs on you.

Well not actually true as such

They can issue a court claim, they may or may not be successful in that claim,.

You may offer to pay £1.00 if you have no money, a judge may accept that,

Most CCJs dont result in a warrant of execution by the court , and bailiffs are not an automatic thing

So its not a case of setting the bailiffs on you

Sure. Not automatic, negotiation possible. All of that. But nonetheless they *can* get the bailiffs onto you.
