stpetre   12 #37 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited)  Those were the days ! Woody turning up, and scoring on the left wing there. In one of the other film clips, I believe that Kevin Keegan's (another South Yorkshire lad) goal was on his debut for Liverpool v Leicester City. Longcol   604 #40 Posted May 22, 2015 (edited) 1947 seems a bit early as Alan was born in 1946 (making Blades 1st Division debut in 1964). I believe in the mid-60's he lived in the Wharncliffe Side/Deepcar area and was a Chapletown lad.  He lived on the "Ideal Homes" estate in Deepcar on Webb Avenue from the late 60's to mid 70's.  Only player I've seen who could take an inswinging corner from the right wing with his right foot. Great striker of a ball.  RIP. Edited May 22, 2015 by Longcol
 Share this content via...
Southey owl   10 #41 Posted May 22, 2015 Best dead ball specialist of his time , matched Peter Lorimer as having the hardest shot in football ,more skilful though, always entertained in derby games.
 Share this content via...

We got chatting about hardest shots, yes at that time Peter Lorimer and Manchester United's David Herd and Bobby Charlton would be among them, but he told me the hardest shot at the Lane wasn't Mssrs Woodward and Currie-who both could hit 'em- but Geoff Salmons! Anyway Alan R.I.P. Edited May 23, 2015 by stpetre spell
 Share this content via...

Ridgewalk   101 #47 Posted May 23, 2015 During that era Woodward, TC and Geoff Salmons looked unstoppable in full flight. I remember Woody also scoring direct from a corner in a League Cup night match against Newcastle at the Lane. I was stood at the back of the kop when it flew in.  That era of Reece, Badger, Hemsley, Colquhoun, Dearden, Hockey was superb.  I always thought Woody came from Penistone and played with Barnsley Boys can anyone help on that one ?  Quite moving to see the tributes paid by Wednesday fans on this thread, it shows what a decent lot you are.  Another link with my childhood gone  RIP Woody
 Share this content via...
