Wifi to my ipad

hi I have to sspend 3 afternoons a week having dialysis at the northern and there's no wifi in there I would love to use my i.pad and laptop but can't anyone know of a way round this problem can I buy some sort of device to plug into a usb port or some thing any internet geeks out there to help me thanks steve c

Can't you get a dongle for your lap top and use that ?

• Tether your phone - i.e. create a wifi hotspot on your phone to use it's internet connection, and connect your iPad to that.
  
• 3/4G Dongle, usb device you plug into your laptop
  
• 3/4G Mifi, device that pumps out a wifi signal to connect to, without needing to be plugged in to your laptop

If you have an iPhone, Android or Windows phone you should be able to use that to create a wifi point that uses your phone signal.

On the iPhone it's called 'personal hotspot', on Android it might be labelled as 'tethering', on Windows phone I think it's called 'internet sharing'.

However, not all plans allow this so its best to check first.

 

The other option is one of these - it's the same thing without the phone.

Just be aware that you could use a lot of data very quickly, particularly if using video streaming. 15gb only works out at 1/2 a gb a day which is about 1 TV show.

 

If you are doing it through your phone check to see if there is a limit to your use. My plan for example lets me use unlimited data on the phone, but limits me to 2gb per month via personal hotspot.

USB 3G dongles are usually pretty naff. As far as I know they're compatible with most laptops, but not iPads. I'd avoid commiting to any kind of contract until you've tested it where you want to use it. A mobile signal strong enough to get e-mail on a phone is not necessarily strong enough for a laptop USB dongle. Pay as you go is usually available for these things and if it doesn't work you're only out a few quid.
