That precinct of shops off barnfield road  is surrounded by expensive houses in a nice area and looks like something out of the bronx. 
 

proper grubby - bar I think the hairdressers which is a reasonable shopfront.

 

who owns those buildings? Is it the council?

The design for these new houses is horrendous... the prices will need to be too if its £2.2m just for the land...
