El Cid   220 #4 Posted April 29, 2015 The UK's highest court has ruled that the government must take immediate action to cut air pollution.  Today's diesel engines are the cleanest ever: high tech filters capture 99% of particulates, so long as you dont put your foot down too hard  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-32512152
 Share this content via...
gwhite78 Â Â 10 #5 Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) I regularly drive an old thirsty 3 litre diesel estate through Sheffield city centre at peak times. I must be evil? Â Of course this couldn't be just an excuse to introduce more eco-taxes? When all the older diesels are off the road, the govt / council won't move the goalposts again? Maybe they will 'find' electric vehicles also create congestion and pollution and are also responsible for 'Killing' too many people due to their lack of eco credentials? Â It couldn't possible be that the longer the pollution continues, the more Eco Carbon Taxes can be collected? geared   317 #6 Posted April 30, 2015 The new Euro 6 regs coming into force pretty much solve this problem for car engines, massive reductions in NOx output.  You still have older vehicles on the road, but the general public won't take too kind to be thrashed for extra tax on their current vehicle.  Especially when diesel engined vehicles were pushed so hard over the last decade. Or punitive measures against the diesel driving populace, MAKE THEM PAY FOR KILLING BABIES AND KITTENS with their fumes.
 Share this content via...
El Cid   220 #9 Posted April 30, 2015 They will increase taxes, that fixes everything. Or punitive measures against the diesel driving populace, MAKE THEM PAY FOR KILLING BABIES AND KITTENS with their fumes.  Do they achieve the objective of lower emissions with petrol engines? Polluted air does end peoples lives and exacerbates childhood asthma and blood pressure. Just being behind the wheel raises gwhite78s blood pressure.
