Black smoke looking North

Recommended Posts

7.30 am April27

Looking north from the south west side of Sheffield I can see a huge cloud of black smoke.

Is there a big fire somewhere?

Assuming its 512 freight forwarders between metallis (formerly van dalen scrap merch) & htc (west) on grange mill lane, lower shiregreen, (Wooley wood bottom area) where a unit for storing god knows what has ignited?

Been burning for an hr now :(

As latters posts confirm: it was metallis, (& not the 1st time nor will it be the last?)

Warnings have been issued on the tv this morning for drivers using M1 outside Sheffield as it is covered in smoke apparently.

It's at the scrap yard at the bottom of Deep Lane. Fire crews are accessing the site off Grange Mill Lane (Shardlows Bottom) and is closed both ways to traffic.

The fire is at Metallis scrap yard and the smoke is not a hazard at the mo as there is no wind.Passed at 0900 and now looks under control.

Was stuck on the M1 southbound at around 7.30am this morning behind the usual rubbernecking cretins who slowed down to watch it. Idiots.

There was a huge queue on the M1 south stretching back past J36 this morning, I wondered what was going on.
