Cladding advice

Recommended Posts

Looking to get house cladded ( in upvc?) over pebble dashing has anyone had this done? Would pebble dash need to be removed?

Would like to fit insulation under it, is this possible?

What companies could do this? Is it the kind that advertise soffits and facias, as I really haven't a clue.

Any help/ info appreciated.

Are you cladding for ease of maintenance? We had our old render removed and replaced with one that doesn't need paining. Our old render used to crack as it expands and contracts on a south facing wall. The new render still looks good four years later.

I can't help thinking you are storing up problems cladding over render. How many years will the upvc last before it starts to discolour?

No you cant. You will build out and it will then come past throating on any existing windows . Do the job right knock of old render and re-do. Stop bodgeing . Any insulating wants doing from the inside by insulated plaster board. Also contact planing / building control tell them what you intend to do. :loopy:

soffit & facias fitters should be able to help you

No they will not. They are joiners not plasterers .:loopy: Dont give advice if you dont know what you are on about.

You can insulate from the outside with an external wall insulation system, most, if not all are finished with render, many types.

If you chucked cladding over the top of just the insulating eps boards you'd have no warranty or guarantee from anyone, I think you also run the risk of moisture and condensation being trapped over time rotting materials and possibly causing damp.

Regarding the old render, I always like to remove this back to brick as then I am 100% confident of what I am rendering too, and can offer full guarantees from myself and the manufacturer.

External projects like this, that everyone outside can see, done 'on the cheap' or 'bodged' will de-value your house.

EWI for a standard 3 bed semi for a basic system ranges from £7k - £10k depending on access, substrate, materials, wall fixtures.

You'll probably get guys that do it cheaper but then you run the risk of poor work, corners cut with materials and the manufacturer, in the event of failure wash there hands of it straight away.

Its your home . Get a proper rendering firm in who will give you a proper guarantee. Dont get the bodgers in you pay for the right people and sleep at night. This is a specialist type work not for small builders :hihi:

Thank you everyone for replying.

We will probably consider having this done, but not this year, with the cost involved.

Anyone who has PMd we will get in touch as/when we decide.

Thanks

DD

These did ours and the house next door. They carefully taped up the windows and took gutters off, put back on etc. so no render where it shouldn't be. Our house is part render, part recon stone. It still looks tidy four years later.

it would be best knocked off but we would build it out with timber insulate between filling all voids ect then breathable membrane over the top then batten it off again and then install upvc shiplap cladding with all proper finishing trims and corners.

i might be doing myself out of a job but is it the upvc finish you want or the benefit of insulating because a dashed/rendered finish is more durable and wont age as fast have a look at k rendering the council is going mad with it at the minute

happy to quote and survey many thanks jordan
