Today an incident occurred which once happened to me, luckily not half as bad.

At the junction at Shell garage where meadow street passes over Netherthorpe road dual carriageway In both directions going across it is illegal to turn right. This is due to public crossings being there I guess. Late last year at 5am I was walking to the train station, roads completely empty and a taxi decided to turn right coming accords the dual carriage way at the university building side and took me out quite badly. Safe to say the taxi driver didn't stop and I never heard anything back from the police on that as k was off work for a good week and a half.

Today on the way back from work my elderly neighbour was coming back from kelham Island on her mobility scooter and a private hire taxi yet again did that same right turn and hit into her luckily she was unhurt but shook up. I see this happen on a daily basis and it's really a very unsafe junction for pedestrians, especially with a large number of students living very close.

After also seeing a lot of road traffic accidents there im just wondering if the highways agency will ever do anything to this junction

If you go to street view on Google maps at the location you mean you will see a Black Cab doing the illegal move (The irony)

Seen close misses there myself....

It Happens daily, I have expressed concerns to the council many times and the only reply I had was that they were looking into it and that was 9 months ago. Before my accident happened.

I've also seen illegal right turns quite regularly, and yes it is often taxis. The worst thing is that in both directions there are very easy alternatives to avoid making that manoeuvre but I suppose people can't lose an extra 30 seconds of their lives these days  that junction is also terrible for people running red lights - nearly every time I'm waiting on Meadow Street the lights go green and there's still a few cars flying up Netherthorpe Road who obviously went through on red.

Taxi driver in illegal turn shocker! They do it all the time. I've lost count of the times I've nearly been taken out by the ones who come through lights on red or do a u-turn right infront of me!

They are supposed to be professional drivers but it makes me wonder if they have ever taken a test. A thorough assessment of their driving ability should be part of the taxi licence application if it's not already!

Apart from blocking off the middle of the road to allow only a left turn from the side roads, there is not much that can be done about it.

A camera would be able to catch them. I often wonder why the council don't do this. They seem very happy to catch people in bus lanes but not one's who make illegal or dangerous banned turns.

Anything to do with not making money out of it or the profession of the drivers involved?

I don't think camera enforcement is allowed of this nature or for any other moving traffic offense such as tailgaiting etc..., the offence has to be spotted by a police officer. I could be wrong though.
