Runningman   148 #15 Posted March 16, 2015 Was it something i said?  When you buy a new bike you would expect to go back to the shop if there were any problems !!  My fall back has always been Matthew Butterworth on Abbeydale Road.  ---------- Post added 16-03-2015 at 14:32 ----------  It's always my pleasure to offer assistance and advice in such technical matters as these. Well actually what i was referring to is you mention others who have taken the time to post, even the poster you had an issue with yet little ol me gets nowt. Also i didnt mention problems, i was talking about servicing as were you and my point being if i was spending serious money on a bike id want a specialist shop to service it. So like i say, something i said or was there another reason im the only one you left out?
 Share this content via...
achorste   10 #17 Posted March 16, 2015 I've only bought the odd emergency item at Decathlon, but a few of my cycling friends have bought their bikes in the Sheffield store and have been very happy with the service. The Btwin range is very well reviewed across the price range and I've never heard any horror stories.  For a regular service though I'd definitely recommend Butterworths on Abbeydale road. He definitely knows his stuff, is very helpful and great value.
 Share this content via...
Alcoblog   10 #18 Posted March 16, 2015  Life wouldn't be the same without you  Could you give me some advice on the descaling factor relative to a nuclear reactor ??  Well yeah, but I don't understand what it's got to do with pedal bikes?  Firstly wipe the surface (a face flannel'll do) to be decontaminated with an alkaline solution containing both alkali and alkanolamine ... dry it with a towel (or girlfriends hairdryer if she's not looking).  Then splash on an alkaline oxidizing solution of (for instance) a soluble permanganate and alkali metal fluoride. When it's nice and decontaminated, a quick squirt of aqueous nitric acid solution just to be sure.  Are you intimating that you keep your push bike in a nuclear facility like me? Mad Hatter   10 #19 Posted March 18, 2015 I'll stick by what I said. The Decathlon Alur 700 is £599, carbon fork, 105 groupset - amazing value! If you're spending £1600 you should be able to do your own basic servicing (or if you've been cycling for 50 years you'll have found someone reliable to suit you). If you still want to spend £1600 there should be a specific reason, and you'll be looking at Planet X and the bigger bike shops. Just don't want you chucking away a grand for no real benefit;-)
 Share this content via...

Strange how you at first like the look of a bike from info on line, then when you actually see the model you change your mind ! That's just what I did. Was getting a headache looking at all there is on the market, so bit the bullet and went into the Giant shop at Havelock Bridge and bought one of their bikes. Excellent customer service, very friendly staff !
 Share this content via...
