This afternoon at Damflask reservoir our (on lead) lurcher was subjected to an unprovoked attack by an out-of-control offlead staffy.

She's got a nasty wound to her thigh, she's been to the emergency vets for antibiotics and will have to go back in on Monday for surgery to have the wound abraded and stitched up.

It could have been much worse, our dog is reasonably sized but a smaller dog could easily have been killed. The staffy was going for her throat as well but thankfully my other half gave it a good kicking to defend her.

The staffy was brindle with some white and walked on a red harness. The owners were a man and woman in their 20s. The man was around 5'7 and the woman was heavily pregnant.

When we (admittedly not so politely) suggested their dog should be on a lead, we were threatened and abused.

The police are involved.

Please keep an eye out for these people and avoid at all costs!

Oh no your poor poor dog!! I can't imagine how awful this must have been and I hope your dog makes a full recovery and isn't effected psychologically either!!

The attitude of the minority of dog owners (like theirs) never ceases to amaze me!! They should have been mortified and upset for you and full of apologies instead of giving you abuse!!

I hope they are traced and are dealt with appropriately!!

Hugs to your pooch ?

Oh no, how awful for you and your dog. I hope she's ok. I often walk my dog at Dam Flask, in fact I was there on Thursday. One reason I go there is because it's somewhere that I always feel safe. The owners and dogs are usually all so friendly there :(

I know we've always found it to be a really good place for a walk but I'm not sure we'll go back there now... apparently these people were from the Hackenthorpe area so watch out for them there too.

I just hope that now it's on police record they might just think twice about letting it off the lead in future, not holding my breath though as they didn't even put it on a lead right after the attack - when I told them again to put it on a lead the man started calling me a 'filthy whore'. Lovely individual! They denied it had even bitten her - well the documentation from the vets and photos of the wound have been submitted to the police so hopefully we'll be able to get some justice, although I'm not sure what can be done. I'd at least like them to pay up for the damages and ordered to keep their dog on lead.

We were very lucky they were caught - they happened to be parked near us and they'd turned round and walked right back to the waiting policeman. Apparently the man tried to just drive off even though the policeman was telling him to stop! I didn't see that though as I'd obviously left right away to get to the vets, my other half had waited.

Good. I hope karma bites them back.

Just thought, my 'good' could be misconstrued.. I meant good in ragards to the Police having been there and getting them almost in the act. Not good that your dog was attacked.

What a dreadful thing to happen- I'm willing your beastie a gentle hug too. Crossed fingers that she recovers from this without major problems :)

Yet another 'Staffy incident'. Why don't Staffy owners keep their dogs on leads? And before any Staffy owners jump down my throat, I know they're not all bad, however, you don't read about attacks by Westies, or Yorkies do you. I wouldn't trust a staffy as far as I could throw it.

Every time I see one I put my dog on his lead because I just don't trust them.

Well done VWKittie for being able to get the police involved and for seemingly getting something done about this awful incident. When it happened to me and my dog we weren't so lucky. We couldn't identify the owner, so nothing got done. Having said all that, it was me who got bit not my dog cos luckily I hoisted him up in the air when it attacked us.

I hope your dog is ok, and that you haven't been put off from walking at Dam Flask too. It's normally such a nice place to walk your dog.

Awful news for you and your dog. I hope your little dog makes a full recovery and is not too shook up about it. I'm pleased you reported them to the police and I hope they sort out some justice for you. Good luck and thanks for informing us. x

I will let you know how she is tomorrow, I'm sure she'll be ok but the big worry now is that we're supposed to be going away on holiday on Saturday and she's booked in at the dog sitters for a week!

I have no idea what we're going to do with regards to after care appointments. I hope we can sort something and don't have to cancel our holiday which would cost a bloody fortune, it was supposed to be a special holiday for my 30th and only our second holiday away without Leia.

So effing angry about it all
