Time to join the EU proper so that the police can be trained to understand and use the actual rules, is all I can say, it is and has been legislation for a long time that anybody staying in another member state for over 6 months has to register the car in that country.They also need to insure the car here, or at least register the original insurance as soon as they seek residency here.

 

Finally the Cross Border Enforcement legislation (Which enables easy exchange of car registration details between member states and allows member states to apply the traffic laws of their own nation to foreign visitors, has been in place since 2013. So what the police need to do is ensure that all these cars have valid, registered insurance, have not been in the country for over 6 months.

 

The fact that they told you they couldn't do anything is factually wrong and hints at either someone who simply doesn't know and gives the shortest lie possible to not reveal this, or has not been informed appropriately, the latter is my guess.

I dare say there are a fair few vehicles like you say but these folk are just blatent , they do exactly as they like & "bloaters" to the rest of you !

when I gave him the details , (I could hear him typing in) ... after a few seconds he said that nothing was coming up on his screen & couldn't find any details of it , why do some folk think there is something underhand about what he said .... the vehicle in question I reported wasn't in my opinion doing anything wrong for the nosey folk , it appeared that it had become a victim of vandalism which is why I reported it

Better still, lets get out of the EU asap so we can stop this kind of offence happening. Keep them out of the Country would be my solution.
