Sheffield follows Rotherham in Child Abuse allegations?

Recommended Posts

Just listening to BBC R4 news at 5pm; there is a report on SYP and their conduct regarding lack of action on historic child abuse; interviews of some former police officers, etc. on the 'size of the exploitation' mainly by Iraqi refugee men was huge.

So sad to hear yet another load of revelations about this, but it is best to have it raised and addressed as quickly as possible?:(

It's fast becoming the gift that keeps on giving.

SYP seem to be a common area for criticism in all of it as well.

Whilst I won't pretend SYP aren't their own special brand of rubbish when it comes to these controversial incidents, I think it's worth remembering that pretty much every town and city in the UK could be in danger of 'following Rotherham'.

in 2002 I was unlucky enough to be on jury duty in Sheffield and sat on a child abuse case. In this case it was the father who had been abusing his 2 daughters the jury decided. It was a very disturbing experience for the jury as well as the children who had to tell their story about their father and see him convicted.

What we are seeing is a rapid paradigm shift in how these cases are regarded, it is so rapid that those involved are being caught out. It is a good thing that this is being tackled, but we need to be very careful as we are seeing things through the new lens rather than the persistent old lens. Apportioning blame based on that paradigm shift is a dangerous and sometimes downright unfair practice.

It started with Jimmy Savile, it is spreading to the general population, I suppose it is like a plaster on an open wound that needs ripping off to treat the wound, but it is extremely painful for all involved.

...I suppose it was inevitable that such a story would break in Sheffield, just down the road from Rotherham, and at least for Rotherham, it is one of the first places where the matter was brought out into the open, and hopefully how Rotherham handles the issue, will be seen as a precedent for all the rest of the country to follow.

On the BBC it's been said by one Police Officer that there were probably over 800 perpetrators and there was evidence of organized gangs, most of the girls were aged between 12 and 15 this thing just can't be ignored anymore, it's way too big. I would like to see every one of those 800 men brought to justice along with all the dirty sleaze bags in Rotherham and every other town in Britain where this abuse has gone on, brought to justice. What on earth were the powers that be thinking about covering up such large scale abuse? Heads should roll for this.

Are you serious? After the council tried to bury the report for so many years and denied any wrongdoing?

Rovvrem is a prime example of the council doing everything WRONG!

It seems that Sheffield has become embroiled in the grooming scandal just as Rotherham was.

As was the case in Rotherham those who should have protected the vulnerable girls and prosecuted those responsible did everything they could to hush it up and let the criminals go.

When you create a public sector in which the worst accusation is that someone is a racist, this is what you get. Those committing the offences will doubtless scream "racism" when confronted. Who in the public sector wants to be called a racist? It can kill a career.

So the abusers simply aren't confronted; and this is why you have near identical cases of Asian grooming gangs all over this country. Oxford, Rochdale, Milton Keynes, Teesside, Rotherham, Sheffield, Blackburn, Manchester et al.

And the mindset in the public service that allowed this abuse to happen is still firmly in place, so expect many more scandals yet to come.

So you're saying it's ok for private businesses to call people racists?
