rinzwind Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 (edited) In the Tenant Involvement and Empowerment standard it states; "Providers (the council) are expected to engage meaningfully with their tenants and offer them opportunities to shape the tailoring of services to reflect local priorities. Tenants should have the ability to scrutinise their provider's performance, identify areas for improvement and influence future delivery. Providers will also need to continue to support tenants in developing their skills and capacity so that engagement and scrutiny are effective." http://www.cwh.org.uk/assets/_files/documents/dec_12/CITY__1354543389_Nationalstandards.pdf Does this sound like your council to you? Do you feel empowered to influence the councils services and to shape them to reflect local priorities? Not according to the challenge for TARA survey. Some comments from the challenge for TARA survey obtained under the freedom of information act..... "We can talk all we like but the Council do what they want" "The Council do as they wish and ignore debate" "We do not think we are being listened to" "Not satisfied" "We seem to get opposition more than support" "You should provide a more effective introduction to new tenants" etc... I would love to hear what your own experiences of being involved and empowered by Sheffield council are like. Maybe you are a member of a TARA and took part in the survey. Maybe you would love to get involved but you never knew you could. Personally I am certain that the council only pays lip service to documents like the Tenant improvement and involvement standard whilst actually doing everything in their power to limit and disrupt any attempts by residents to shape the services offered by the council. Before the trolls even start let me say that YES I have done research and YES I know what I am talking about. I will even provide documented examples as this discussion progresses. For now, lets hear what some random Sheffiielders actually think about this.... Edited March 10, 2015 by rinzwind

For now, lets hear what some random Sheffieilders actually think about this.... Judging from your other posts you seem to have an agenda why don't you tell us what your problems are before it turns into yet another anti council thread With regards to TARA's I've found most of the people on these things are elderly White and seem to think that if the council doesn't give them what they want they are being ignored, also I know of one TARA rep who shares on Facebook posts by fascist/racist parties quite how they can represent their area and the tenants fairly is a mystery when they have an agenda
nitrambran Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 What additional powers do you think TARA's should have? I think the spelling of sheffielders at the bottom of the page needs more research.
dangerousedd Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 so long as they carry out repairs quickly I don't care what else they do really.

Narden Dee Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I think TARA's should have opportunities to shape the tailoring of services to reflect local priorities. Tenants should have the ability to scrutinise the councils performance, identify areas for improvement and influence future delivery. Engagement and scrutiny should be effective. How would you ensure that what the Tara's want is what the local area needs and not what they as the Tara's want for themselves. As for consultation they are constantly consulted, future of council housing, repair frameworks, investment of council housing, style of doors, colour of paint in communal areas etc etc And that's just of the top of my head
rinzwind Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 What sort of scrutiny do you think most councils tenants will be able to offer? Whatever scrutiny they like. ---------- Post added 09-03-2015 at 02:21 ---------- How would you ensure that what the Tara's want is what the local area needs and not what they as the Tara's want for themselves. Because the Tara's live there. How do you ensure the council does what the local area needs and not just what the well paid civil servants at the top want? As for consultation they are constantly consulted, future of council housing, repair frameworks, investment of council housing, style of doors, colour of paint in communal areas etc etc And that's just of the top of my head Are you in a TARA yourself? Which one? How many members does it have?
speedy69 Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 I think TARA's should have opportunities to shape the tailoring of services to reflect local priorities. Tenants should have the ability to scrutinise the councils performance, identify areas for improvement and influence future delivery. Engagement and scrutiny should be effective. All this currently happens, I don't know what your getting at!
