Nationalising a public utility is a completely different kettle of fish then selling shares of a private company. Royal Mail had no market value so there's a lot of estimation was involved, if the level was set at the wrong price then it wouldn't have sold, so it's wrong to expect a public utility to sell for a peak price.

Eurostar has a market valuation, and the government used that as a guide price when it valued it's shares.

Yes I see your reasoning...and it makes sense....I'm convinced the share price will 'spike' in Eurostar....But of course that's speculation on my part right now...Time will tell no doubt...

If you're convinced then you should buy some shares fast!

What is the basis of the hunch that's telling you that the stock market has got the current value of Eurostar wrong, or what do you see coming up on the horizon that's going to increase the market value of Eurostar?

Prices will rise, that's for sure. So we'd better use it while we can still afford it.

Isn't Eurostar currently a profit making private business, charging a market rate for it's services? If so, why should prices rise?

Well I would consider myself an average 'Joe Soap'...So I can't afford to buy shares.

My 'hunch'?.....That's simple....A deep mistrust of the current government!...There...I said it...:)

Actually I apologise I've just looked it up, Eurostar isn't a private business, it's a Government-owned corporation.

I presume it still has a 'share price' though?....

Before the sale it was owned by us, the French and Belgium. So the shares aren't available on the open market, hence my apology.

Ah...I see....I just checked it out, and you're right...So obviously I'm wrong about the share prices.....But you'll no doubt understand my suspicion...

If George Osbourne told me today was the 4th March 2015...I'd have to check the calendar. :hihi::hihi::hihi:

If you checked it out, you'd has also seen that last year the valuation of the Government's share was put around £300 million, so are you congratulating the government for managing to sell their share for two and a half times the amount estimated?
