Car drivers of Sheffield need to be aware of this guidance

Recommended Posts

Some more guidance for car drivers of Sheffield:

1. Indicate.

2. Give way to pedestrians when turning from a major to minor road.

3. Do not park on pedestrian crossings.

and to add to that, some guidance for pedestrians of Sheffield:

1. If you are attempting to cross the road, it is more important to check the road is clear and safe to cross, than to be playing with your phone, or be lost in music.

2. Cars hurt. Although it may be 15 seconds quicker to cross on that blind corner rather than walk up to the crossing, it is far safer for you and the driver if you aren't so lazy and selfish.

3. Take responsibility for your own actions, rather than assuming the driver will be able to brake in time - use common sense and reduce the chance of being involved in an accident.

There is only two ways out of my village...

Down the steepest hill imaginable (nothing so steep in Sheffield) or uphill over the mountain on a single track road.

Downhill has parking on one side only ...on the left going downhill.

Drivers here are without doubt more considerate of other road users.

Maybe twice in the four years I've been here have I had to stop on the uphill journey.

The same on the single track mountain road...drivers pull over into the nearest passing place if they see traffic approaching, allow them to pass and carry on with their journey.

A friendly wave to say thankyou is always given.

Really.....it's a total different world to driving in Sheffield.

Very good, one slight problem. We are in Sheffield in 2015 and that sort of consideration disappeared about 15 years ago. Maybe more.

Very, very funny to see pedestrians designated as lazy and selfish by a motorist.

A single track road with cars parked on both sides???

How does anyone get down it in the first place???

Well usually at least some of the cars are parked partially on the pavement as well. Why people no longer get tickets for obstruction I don't know.

Very true... and many motorists seem to forget that regardless of where they are in relation to other road features once a pedestrian leaves the pavement they do have right of way.

Pedestrians beware though being in the right does not sound so good if you are in need of an ambulance.

Regarding the High way code, I wonder how many people actually keep up to date with that, there are constantly ammendments amd additions to it.

I would not mind betting most people have not looked at it since they passed their test.

When you're going up hill and you have an obstruction on your side of the road, do you simply ignore oncoming traffic and barge past?

Some caveman driving a red car did as much last week and proceeded to call the driver of the car traveling downhill who had nowhere to pull in and several cars behind her a **ck*** woman........... (didn't hear anymore).

Said caveman needs to learn how to reverse his car effectively since it took him several attempts to reverse back into a very large space to prevent his obstruction and allow traffic to flow freely.

Said woman driver smiled and waved her thanks cheerily to said caveman as she drove past him.
