sebhaigh Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Hi, I'm buying some new spanners and sockets. I've had a look at Halfords Pro and Bahco. Do you know if anyone still makes good spanners and sockets in Sheffield? Happy to pay a bit of a premium... Thanks, Seb PS: Apologies if this is a frequently asked question. And I suspect the answer is that no-one makes this kind of stuff in Sheffield any longer...
melv Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 I think the last manufacturer of spanners & socket sets in Sheffield were John Bedfords & they went belly-up over 30yrs ago.
sebhaigh Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Ah, OK. Thanks Melv. Appreciate the reply.

Have a look at links below it appears spanners and sockets are still made in Sheffield http://www.toolbank.com/0/c/C3071 http://www.thomasmeldrumltd.co.uk/Pages/default.aspx Edited February 25, 2015 by bazjea
sebhaigh Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Thanks Bazjea. They seem to be focussed on box spanners for wheel nuts. I'll give them a call. S
peak4 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Franklyn Tools maybe worth a look, depending on what you are after. I think at least some of their stuff is made in Sheffield. I'm a regular user of both Bahco & Halfords Pro spanners and sockets and have no complaints about them. Depending on what you're after, you might consider supplementing them with some Bergen tools as well; arguably bit less well made, but worth considering for items which won't be in use day in, day out.
sebhaigh Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Thanks Peak4. I'll contact Franklin too.
