Not sure if anyone has seen the news last week about Virginmedia expansion and they have just set up a website to register your interest. I'm not really interested if you don't like Virgin but if you live in an area not served then by registering you increase the chance of expanding in Sheffield. There are huge areas not covered in S8 & S17 amongst other areas not covered.

Click the link and register

Perhaps they should spend the money fixing their existing network first. Got a broadband utilisation fault that's been open for 11 months! Package says 50Mbs and I'm lucky to get just 5.

They are expanding but only in cities and in towns, where they can reach the most customers.

Pretty much I expect 90% of the expansion to happen in London.

I know its an old post but...

This morning i had an email from Virgin Media regarding my area

You may remember we contacted you recently about bringing Virgin Media services to S8 ***? Well… great news!

Your area is now part of our supercharged expansion plans! We’re still working through all the details and timings, but to make sure your area is one of the first connected, keep telling your friends and neighbours to register their interest too. It’s all about people power, you see. We want to expand first into areas with the most demand for our services.

When we get to an area, we aim to connect everyone. Very occasionally we come up against local factors, meaning we might not be able to connect all homes. But we will always try to do our best.

With Virgin Media ultrafast fibre optic broadband, you get more of what you want, when you want it. That’s because we use a totally different type of cable with DOCSIS® 3 technology and run it right to your house. It means we can give you broadband speeds of up to 152Mb, twice as fast as Sky’s top speed of up to 76Mb† (they use copper wires across most of their network). Plus TiVo®, with up to 260 channels, including much-loved Sky favourites.

Before you know it, you and everyone at home could be streaming, chatting and surfing to your hearts’ content. We’ll be in contact with you as soon as we’re ready to start connecting up your area. In the meantime, if you have any questions, check out our FAQs.

Kind regards

The Virgin Media team

So if your in S8 and want Virgin Media then get registering on cable my street

We're with Vermin, and if you're thinking of joining them, I'd seriously do your homework.

They have regularly put the price up on our monthly subscription, nearly £60 last month. (2 increases per year past 2 years, probably to pay Usain Bolt his appearance fees in the ads he did last year)

That includes the phone(we don't make calls any more from the Land Line as they soon mount up, the very basic TV package FTA channels, and Internet with router(which goes offline frequently)

Call centre in some far flung place, where all they're interested in is getting you off the phone as soon as possible, whenever you ring with a fault or the connection has gone offline.

Awful company, and wouldn't recommend them at all.

But who can beat them for speed and reliability? The "superhub" doesn't have great wireless strength compared to other routers, but I've not had an issue in years.

I sometimes baulk at paying around £42 a month, particularly as I'm forced to have the phone I don't use, but for the channels and 100Mb broadband it can't be beat.

As for costs, not other providers are as cheap as they seem.

I prefer paying a tenner to sky for 40/10 broadband, it's reliable and very unlimited, plus my news server maxes out at 50MB/s. I download alot but wouldn't pay an extortionate amount for twice the speed (that often has major 'speed' issues that hear of).

The problem with Sky broadband is (I believe) they are less likely to offer you retention deals on the TV if you have broadband. Because they know its a hassle to move your landline and broadband JUST because they won't offer you a good TV deal.

As I ONLY have TV with them, the last 12 months I had 75% off to stay with them.

Its not going to be as good a discount when I renew next month, but I can always cancel safe in the knowledge my landline and broadband are unaffected.
