Murder is an extremely rare crime, so even though South Yorkshire has a high murder rate it is still possible for it to be one of the safest places around.

Surprising. If I had to guess I would have been saying Manchester/Liverpool. Bedfordshire is quoted as been the 2nd hightest so clearly my guess would be way out.

Because murder is rare, the results are heavily biased by each case.

 

So (hypothetically) if I go home tonight and murder the 2 people living next door to me, my street is statistically the one with the highest murder rate. That doesn't make my street a generally undesirable place to live though, each individual case skews the results heavily

I am not surprised since when I think about it, I know of 3 people that I either went to school with or were relatives of my best friend who have been murdered in Sheffield in the past 10 years.

 

That's a lot really when you think about it, abnormally high. I certainly wouldn't like to think that trend of personally knowing 3 people who get murdered in violent crimes every 10 years will continue for the rest of my life.
