Some of you could well do with looking into why they are going on strike, if a large amount of the workforce you work in would no longer qualify for your pension I'd hope you would be fighting it too. Easier to carry on with ignorant stereotypes though...

Whats it over now is it retirement age again or the fact the vending machine in the canteen has ran out of toffee crisp?

Hope you don't need them when Dads Army have to turn up - and only Jones and Godfrey because the others are overstretched

Oh nevermind, sack the bloody lot of the idle barstewards and get the unemployed to put out fires and other rescue services, save some money.

"The FBU objects to plans to make firefighters work longer and pay more into their pensions to get less in retirement."

Seems fair to me.

Would those criticising them be happy to work longer yet pay more for less?

Total ignorance on here about why firefighters are striking. I for one fully support them regardless of potential consequences. Their reasons are just and valid.

One questions. Do those who object or make fun pay for their own pension. I'm sure those that do and who have massive changes to payments into and expected returns out would empathies and do the same should the same happen to them.

We should all support them in the strike. There are a few reasons why they are doing this one being the age. Would you really want someone who is in able to do their job to turn up at a fire endangering their and your life?

Is it wrong for firefighters to earn extra money. Their money isn't fantastic. They are doing overtime in order to make ends meet and support families. Just like nurses, doctors, police etc.

plus they have to pay higher tax rate as a second income.

What's the problem?

If they declare the income, have full liability insurance etc then no problem legally. Except that surely the shift pattern is designed so they get rest time when off shift, so that when they are on shift that are in the best condition to pull children out of burning houses...if they've been fitting kitchens all day and not slept much I'd doubt they'd be in the best state.
