Blatter was supposed to have supported the US bid for the World Cup, and it was UEFA via Platini who supported the Qatar bid. The Rumour is that the storm is being stirred up behind the scenes by Blatter in an effort to get the World Cup moved to the US.

If that is the case, I hope they are all hanging their head in shame.......

"...Nepalese migrants building the infrastructure to host the 2022 World Cup have died at a rate of one every two days in 2014 - despite Qatar's promises to improve their working conditions.

Qatar has admitted that 964 workers from Nepal, India and Bangladesh died while living and working in the Gulf state in 2012 and 2013, and pledged last year to reform the kafala system..."

agree with most others England should pull out of it

Who would follow though? Unfortunately we don't have the influence we once had. Sorry to say it needs Germany to take the lead.

Not necessarily, it just needs 1 of the bigger countries to be bold enough to do it.

Maybe, with all the politics involved, and the fragile relationship with the middle east, would it have wider consequences outside of football and is this the reason that Europe and individual governments are seemingly turning a blind eye???

No need for any others to follow as yet , how ever its the fans that have a big say in this, shirt sales, ticket sales and other stuff just boycott it . ;) sooner or later those bigwigs will start to take notice. and we all know they don't want to lose money at end of day.

Can see headline now - "Sheffield footy fans say a big no to Qatar ":hihi:

soon it will catch on to other citys n that's how it will start ;) (just a idea lol)

It should go back to just Europe and South America taking it in turns to host it.

Bugger the rest.

Countries on these continents didn't need a World Cup to kick start a sustainable football league structure. If other countries want to host it they should have to prove they have a decent football league with a modicum of interest and only then should they be allowed to bid for it.

#Post 11 - Whiteowl and Something - post above - can't disagree with those ideas.

Pipe dream or not, good ideas have to start as someone's dream.

Oh wouldn't it be good if England were the first to take the stance?

No one should be the first, why go out on a limb and isolate yourself from international football?

What it needs is for the leaders of the major international football countries in Europe Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Holland, England etc to get together take a vote as to whether or not they believe FIFA is a fit and proper organisation to be in charge of world football and then if they come to the obvious conclusion that they aren't they should resign en masse.

Once they form another organizing body they should then invite Brazil, Argentina and any other countries where they consider the setups to be above board to join.

FIFA is rotten to the core and the Qatar decision was a display of the utmost arrogance which lacked even the pretense of being anything other than corrupt.

When it reaches that level of hubris reform isn't going to get the job done, it needs scrapping and starting again with some hard and fast rules in place.

Don't hold your breath.

Absolutely fantastic post, one with which I wholeheartedly agree.
