money, money, money. It's all its about now. I don't pay a huge amount of attention to international football generally but those death figures are terrible. Should it be boycotted? Definitely. Will it? Not a chance.

it would be great to see The likes of Germany, England, Spain etc to say no, if it meant being excluded from the Next one then so be it, it would be worth it

Personally I think the Aussie's would have hosted a great world cup.

 

Edit: Sepp Blatter will be another Jimmy Saville - It will come out after he has gone. he has got himself so wound up in his bullet proof bunker.

 

No boycott or "go slow"/fielding U21 teams etc - corporate sponsors will see to that :-)

Reading about the way the migrant workers are lured there, then have the contracts torn up and effectively trapped, is shocking... also the other reports on wikipedia (about introducing 'gay tests' to stop gay people entering the country) - can't imagine any western country would get away with anything like that! The great game of football that began in our city is now being ruined in my opinion by money grabbing ruling bodies, the World cup now looks certain to be played in November/December in Qatar, why was this place ever considered suitable for the tournament but England wasn't?.

That would be great. All the European teams boycot Qatar and just host their own event in Summer.

 

The Qatar decision stunk as soon as it was announced, money changing hands, bribes, people literally dying whilst trying to build an infrastructure that never existed, the changing of the natural order of a summer world cup. I would like to think that it would take just one major country to say that they are not attending, and the domino effect of others following suit would occur.

It makes me laugh that the happy hippy green peace brigade usually found <--- way, have not had a thing to say about it, like you say Trav, forget the controversy surrounding the bidding process, the human rights fiasco and the safety of the construction workers alone merits a boycott of this tournament.

Its sad but Nervy is right, the world cup should be a global celebration of the game, but the money has ruined it.

Blatter was supposed to have supported the US bid for the World Cup, and it was UEFA via Platini who supported the Qatar bid. The Rumour is that the storm is being stirred up behind the scenes by Blatter in an effort to get the World Cup moved to the US.
