You have been chosen especially, as we know it is harder for you who have and care for disabled family members. This is a new and fantastic opportunity for you as we know the challenges you face on a daily basis, caring for a family member with a disability, Reidy Youth Foundation are giving you the opportunity to develop your skills, build confidence and help you discover the skills you thought you never had. This Journey you will take will be sure to take you on the path to employment and by the end of the course you will have the right employability skills and confidence to be able to start work or be a huge step closer to finding that perfect job out there that is waiting for you. This project is going to boost your CV ready for your potential employers! No previous experience in any subject is needed, out tutors will help with everything. We also have some IT professionals coming in to help with the computer stuff and matrix accredited advisors helping run a job club to get you ever closer to your ideal job. We are all her to help and support you on your individual journeys and everything you do on this project is achievable. The project is going to run for 10 weeks, starting on the 28th February and you will be 1 of 9 learners. • Too short notice?? • No one to look after the kids? DON’T WORRY! We have all this covered especially for you! Childcare We have highly trained and fully qualified carers to look after all our children on the days of the project so your kids will be having a fabulous time too, they will be using crèche facilities playing games and having lots and lots of fun too. And don’t worry, if you want to pop in and see them you can do because they are in the same building as us. These carers will look after your children for the duration of the project (5 hours a day over 10 weeks) but if you would like to make other arrangements yourself it is entirely your choice, please advise us of your decision and note that this is a free service. Stress Relief Course • Are you stressed? • Do you find that family life can be stressful? • Is caring for a disabled family member challenging and sometimes stressful? • Do you think you could get stressed in other situations, such as work? If you have answered yes to any of the above then you will love our yoga sessions that are also part of the project! These sessions are run by Kay Locke who is a yoga instructor, she has designed her programme around her own children who have special needs. Her mindful movement stress relief course is perfect for learners like yourself. Please find attached to this form the flyer for the yoga, this is all part of our project and will not cost you a penny (unless you would like a massage). Travel If you travel by bus we would like to reimburse your travel costs so please retain those bus tickets! (5 pounds per day). Lunch Food and refreshments will also be provided, if you have any special requirements please let us know so that we can arrange this for you. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to do children’s food as well and as children can be fussy especially if they have additional needs please remember to fetch them a packed lunch. Project Activities There will be a number of tasks for you to participate in, one of the major events during the project will be to help organise a seminar for special needs children, in particular our focus is on Autism as it is Autism awareness month in March. This event is for parents and carers caring for autistic children to learn more about their children through live guest speakers. Live demonstrations through one to ones. Also part of the fayre will have 10 stalls selling and giving information on all sort of things. The event will be split between two consecutive days. Friday 13th march and Saturday 14th march. The tasks for this project will be: • Working in a team, you will produce a scheduled timetable for the 2 day event (organisational skills, time keeping skills, being able to work well in a team) • Using computers, you will design promotional bags, T-shirts and Flyers. Also putting orders in with suppliers to print and distribute these in time for the event. (IT skills, Creativity, Organisational skills and team work) • Another one of the tasks for the event will be ticket sales, you as a team will work together to design and print tickets for this event, you are in charge of advertising the event in any means you can come up with to get as many people as possible to the event. (IT skills, creativity, team work, sales experience) The seminar is split into 2 days, Friday the 13th and Saturday 14th March. Learners will be split into 2 groups, 1 group for Friday and 1 group for the Saturday. The tasks on the day will be to do with everything you have learned and planned in the classroom, the day will run from 9am til 4pm on both days. Another one of our tasks is inviting the public to a workshop, in particular parents who have family members with special needs to come along and create their own personal charts and symbols similar to those used in PECS, this is so they can incorporate routines with their children using charts and symbols also this will help improve some children’s behaviour such as a reward chart etc. You the learner will gain IT skills, organisational skills and use printers and laminators for this particular task. In addition to this you can also create charts for yourself – this could be organisational charts or charts for your own children. Employability By the end of the course, those people who are wanting to go into work will have the employability skills they need, for those of you still not ready for work you will have gained the skills to be closer to employment than at the start of the project and we will help you to create / update those CV’s, one of our sessions will be to distribute those CV’s, weather permitting we will be out and about Sheffield giving those CV’s to potential employers and indoors on the same day we will be emailing and using computers to distribute them to your potential employers. The purpose of this is to build on your confidence and to prove to yourselves that you can achieve and you can accomplish anything! End of the project There will be a celebration event at the end of the project we will award you with your certificates of completion and other achievements, this event will be one of your tasks, to arrange your celebration event, you will have a budget for food, venue and activities of your choice! Finally Now you have a brief understanding of the project and what we have to offer you, all we ask is that you give us your determination and commitment to start and finish the project with us.
