Opinions/experiences of old peoples care homes.

Recommended Posts

Thank you very much for your advice it is all valued. A nurse is taking my mum ( the 103 year old's daughter) to visit a couple of homes tomorrow. Then the big meeting on Tuesday. To be honest my grandma has been in hospital a few weeks now and for the very first time seems to have lost the will to go on. Before she went into hospital yes, she went to the hairdressers and luncheon club, she enjoyed her social life.It seems, sadly that she has given up.

If they need something as simple as insulin that moves them into the nursing home category.

It does, but sometimes there are specialist needs that certain homes specialise is.

Not so. If their only 'nursing' need is the administration of insulin this can be done by the community nurse visiting the residential home.

In which case it's important that the 'powers that be' get onto this quickly before her condition worsens further.

Good luck.

UPDATE

She has been allocated a place at Westbourne House Nursing home.

The big meeting to discuss her care plan is tomorrow. Mum went and there was an activities board and they have a hairdressing visitor. Bottom line is mm was shown 2 places but only Westbourne House had a bed.So really, not alot of choice involved at all

But it is your decision where she goes - it sounds as though you have been given no choice in the matter. Don't be bullied into this - there are many care homes out there.

Is this a temporary placement ? Make sure you have all the fact before agreeing to anything.
