HCF2010   10 #89 Posted February 21, 2015 We had a perfectly nice day in Page Hall today. PACA held a carboot/table top sale and we made £30 for the Farm selling bric a brac. They drove a hard bargain but it was a good day and lots of different folk came to the sale. None of the people who attended were rude or horrible - they just had a different way of doing things. HCF2010 Â Â 10 #91 Posted February 21, 2015 No. My parents do and have done for decades. And so do colleagues and a few friends. I go through it most days, and *drum roll, even walked through it about two weeks ago. I also grew up on the edge of Page Hall. kidneystone   23 #93 Posted February 21, 2015 No. My parents do and have done for decades. And so do colleagues and a few friends. I go through it most days, and *drum roll, even walked through it about two weeks ago. I also grew up on the edge of Page Hall.  I was born and raised at Page Hall many moons ago and it was a clean and pleasant place to live. When I go through the area now and see the state of it my heart sinks.  I feel for the decent people of Page Hall.
 Share this content via...
HCF2010 Â Â 10 #94 Posted February 21, 2015 What do I think of it now? It has a lot of litter and dire car parking but other than that it's the same as it ever was. People have a rose tinted view of how it used to be. I remember as a kid hearing people slate Page Hall in the late 70's early 80's - when the Asian/Afro Carribean population first moved in. People said the same things then as they do now but most will deny this. It's just the way things are. The distance that time gives has that effect. Â I remember the gangs of asian kids who used to draw exactly the same rants from people. I remember the casual racism then too. The gang baseball bat attack on the pyramid cafe on the corner when people shouted from the roof tops about how bad the area was getting then. One of my Mother's friends saying how bad Page Hall was compared to how it used to be in the 50's and 60's. The same old same old. Odd-jobs   10 #96 Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) What do I think of it now? It has a lot of litter and dire car parking but other than that it's the same as it ever was. People have a rose tinted view of how it used to be.  Yep it surely was a filthy hell hole even before before immigration. These photos were obviously taken with special 1960's camera with Rose tinted lenses ,or perhaps the area was especially cleaned in order to confuse future generations.  http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s18525&prevUrl= http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s18527&prevUrl= http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s15839&prevUrl= http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;s18528&prevUrl= http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;u06907&prevUrl= http://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?action=zoomWindow&keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;u06909&prevUrl Edited February 21, 2015 by esme Quote tags
 Share this content via...
