darra   10 #4 Posted February 19, 2015 Was the Mojo club as influential on the British music and club scene as the Cavern club in Liverpool?
 Share this content via...
Dark Night   10 #5 Posted February 20, 2015 Was the Mojo club as influential on the British music and club scene as the Cavern club in Liverpool? Not really it was mainly a venue for names and up and coming names. Very few if any local bands got to play there, these were the local bands who'd set Mr Stringfellow on his way. My wife and I went when Long John Baldrey was appearing, whilst we chatted to Baldrey when he took a break his fill in singer was Rod (The Mod) Stewart. The rest was history. darra   10 #6 Posted February 20, 2015 Wasn't the Cavern the same thing, a venue for up and comings?
 Share this content via...
Dark Night   10 #7 Posted February 21, 2015 The Black Cat Club like the Cavern initialy tended to put on mainly local bands whereas the Mojo moved further afield for acts ie Long John Baldrey etc.
 Share this content via...
darra   10 #8 Posted February 21, 2015 True but local or not it bought them to the attention of the masses. Same as Wigan casino the Hacienda all pivotal in the music scene in their time
 Share this content via...
Dark Night   10 #9 Posted February 22, 2015 Not really, the last club to push local talent was the Black Cat Club, after that the emphasis was further afield. When one local band approached regarding a gig at the Mojo it was implied that they not the club would have to pay.
 Share this content via...
