Locksley   10 #2 Posted February 16, 2015 Don't think there's anyway to do it without stripping, which actually is a piece of cake tbh. My original 60gb fat one got YLOD about a year and a half ago, I fixed it by stripping it down, heating the motherboard with a heat gun and then re-thermal pasting it. Got a few months use out of it but then it went again. Much to my surprise I was able to fix it again with that method but only got an hour or so's play out of before it conked out again last Saturday. There is another method which is pretty much the same but uses a flux, I don't know if that's any more permanent.
 Share this content via...
geared   317 #3 Posted February 16, 2015 I don't think it's ever permanent. I've re-floated a couple for friends but they all go pop again sooner or later.  You can get a second-hand PS3 so cheap now I wouldn't bother, unless you've got some data on the hard drive you want to recover.
